Right folks I've got my W8 light installed and all working thru the dimmer
Right here is a quick
guide for those of you waiting to do this:
1. Remove the lens from original courtesy light - it pulls down from front and lifts out
2. Undo and remove the 2off Philips screws holding the light assembly in
3. Working from the drivers side, ease out the tab inside the light to allow you to pull down on the light then push in the metal tab on the outer edge, same side, while pulling the light down. It should pull out
4. Unclip the loom connector and remove the light
There a couple of ways forward from here:
- if you have purchased a pre-wired loom then just plug between original loom and W8 light then run an extension wire to the dimmer
- if like me you have the light/connector/wires then here is how I connected everything up
5. Cut the connector block from original loom and crimp to wires supplied with W8 light kit
6. Run an extension wire along to A pillar, down through this to the fuse box, I ran the wire in through one of the existing holes without removing the fuses
7. To remove the main light switch, push in the switch and turn to 'on' position the pull out
8. Locate the top left wire (#17 on the connector block) blue/white - this is the dimmer feed for the extension cable
I cut and crimped the extension wire into this
9. Connect the W8 light to loom and trial all the workings (open doors to ensure the lights come on, operate all the switches on light, switch on main light to ensure the ambient LEDs work)
10. Push the main light switch back into place and by switching off the lights this locks the switch back into position
11. Due to the fitment of the W8 light connector, I had to cut away a section of the polystyrene within the headlining. Once this is done push the W8 light into position - rear in first then just push it up into place, it locates on 2off Spring tabs
Just for reference, the wire colours and connections are as follows (for MkI Leon FR):
- dimmer connection = blue/white
- W8 #1 = extension wire to dimmer (I used 5amp wire from Halfords)
- W8 #3 = white or cream (original courtesy light)
- W8 #4 = brown (original courtesy light)
- W8 #5 = grey/red (original courtesy light)
Hope this is of
help to someone
