Further intercooler questions

Right, it would seem that many people try many different "custom" intercoolers, laguna, frontera etc, but what are the physical restraints that makes an intercooler suitable? i'm not ashamed to say i haven't got a friggin clue! core size- what does it have to be? physical dimensions depth, height, width- what are the dimensions we beezer owners must work to? what are the Real boxes that coolers must tick to be considered to be attempted? many clibra owners run frontera coolers, does that mean a calibra would fit ours???? my head is all over on this one!!!
sadly, i won't be able to read the following debate cos i'm off to bed.
hope to read something good in the morning.
please, no "Search facility" answers, i tried that and i couldn't find my answers.
Good night brothers and sisters,
Dan:shrug::confused:

the bigger the core of the intercooler the more it cools.. but if i remember rightly too bigger core can cause alot of turbo lag..

i have the laguna one on my beeza performs well.. no more lag than usual..

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=149356

relatively cheap setup aswell, cost me about 220quid altogether and about 5hours of blood sweat and tears.. lol. was relatively simple actually if you follow the guide on here.

Oh right. so has anyone actually figured out the maximum physical dimensions we can use for the intercooler, and what is the recommended max cor size for a satge 1 remap?

standard turbo wise you dont need anything huge, a good quality core say 400mm in length and 175-200 in height is more than adequate, with say a thickness of 50mm just off the top of my head.

you speak of maximum but bigger isnt always better despite what some people think. unless your considering a big turbo application (in which case hold off on the giant cooler till the turbo goes in) then anything a little bigger than stock will improve cooling

well me and a friend are attempting a new idea on a cooler conversion on his, not letting the secret out yet- but he is a cupra r runer too. the core dimensions are 630x24x60- is this too big?????
the design of the cooler should look damn cool too.
photos and a guide to follow, if this cooler is not considered too biiiiiig!
are we going too large?

To big and you'l get lag. Best it to keep it as close as posible to a proven cooler.

My custom one forge are doing for me now is big but will cope with the power fine as its wide quite tall but not thick

Sorry plaese accept my apologies the measurements are actually 630mmx230mmx30mm- is it still to big? that gives a volume of 4347000

the recommended size of 400x170x50 = a volume of 3400000

Any advice will be appreciated guys

my measurements were based on roughly what mine is, although now thinking about it i would guess its taller than i first estimated. its hard to say whether the core your contemplating will be suitable, but i would assume that size wise it would be fine. 2.75-3" inlets and single pass i assume?

well if im correct the forge fmic for the lcr is around 600x300x76 approx sizes which is the size that i have gone for on my custom build
but pro alloys is 55mm thinck i think so not sure how a 30mm thick would perform

right the inlet and outlet dimensions of this potential donor of the cooler are 1.75 " and 1.75" core is 630mmx230mmx30mm
are we pissing up the wrong tree?
just fancied doing something different!
