Rear speakers for 3 door Mk4 Ibiza

Well, had my interior apart today (Mk4 Ibiza) and am wondering what to stick in the rear (it is a 3door). I have some Focal Polyglass up front and am very happy with them. Some kind of sub in the boot (currently a 16yr old kenwood sub that is in it's final death throws). Now, the rear panels were SUCH a bitch to get off that I am thinking of changing the speakers before put the car back together again.

So:

6.5" coax
6.5" midbass
something bigger than 6.5" (there is LOADs of room - something like 17cm depth).
???

I am in exactly the same boat as you mate - Just put in the 6.5" Focals up front but the rears are gash and need changing, I was thinking of some focal mini subs as the front speakers are more than loud enough for the Mid range and tweeters.
Just in the process of getting an Alpine MP3 head unit installed should hopefully make a differance.

Hi guys, my first post here. I bought the Ibiza 4dr dab model last year and of course they decided that speakers in the rear doors weren't important for a dab radio :wtf:

In removing the head unit it looks like the rear speaker cable is in place, just no speakers present, so I have 2 questions.

1 - would the speakers you've stated fit in the 'empty' rear door speaker housing for the mk4?

2 - The door interiors are all nicely moulded, i can't locate any screws and don't particulary want to damage them in removal. The speaker grill looks a bit modular and 'could' be removed without the need to take the entire door panel off, but it could be a red herring. Does anyone have an idea what i need to remove to fit the speakers?

Ok - rear trim needs to be removed to get access to these speakers. Speakers are normally riveted onto a metal panel, so no probs here for you. You need to be looking for 165cm speakers - these can be two ways or use a component set and replace the tweater. Would be advisable to put some dynamat on the rear panel whilst your at it

iirc sumone has fitted 6x9's in the back. As you say, there is plenty of space back there, tho they had to make custom mounts for them. Cant think of who it is off hand, sorry

i did though you will have to make your own mounts as rich said
there is enough room to get even 8'' in there if you wanted

if the wiring isnt already there it shouldn't be to difficult to add as you will have the rear side panels out and sill trims off so just a case of removing the panel under the glove box and removing head unit
if you search glove box on ibiza mk4 section you will find instructions for glovebox removal if you need it.

nope matey sorry i dont as i just binned them as soon as they came out better off making your own as those ones in the pic have the speakers riveted in

they are easy to make as the metal work is mostly flat mate and once you have made one and are happy with it just trace round it for the other side

i used an 8mm marine ply for mine mdf is denser than ply but will need to be thicker which may cause a problem with fit
as you will note in the pics the panel went infront of the metal on one side and behind at the other.

If you stick some 6x9's in the rear doors, would adding two more on the rear parcel shelf make that much of an addition to the sound?

are the front speakers the same as the rears? initially thought they would have 6x9's but pulled off the rear door card and saw circular 8"

I think the rear doors are originally 6.5" but you can stick bigger ones like 6x9's
