Good call putting the better tyres on the rear (I assume its FWD). I had the rear break out on me once with my Leon 1M 1.8T and that was scary as ****. Fortunately, I didnt hit anyone or anything, only my pride took a fair hit :giggle:

That was the last time I had the better tyres on the front. Please note that I am a average driver, no track experience or something
That is exactly the reason I put the better tyres on the back, I had a bit of a rear end/oversteer moment!

I have 4 x michelin pilot sport 4s on a 390HP cupra 280 for me the best tyres ever al the grip in the front. I had other brands hi end tyres on the cupra but no one can out performe these ones on the tune that i have. My personal opinion ;)
I think for pure grip the pilot sport 4 is the best of the best, but they are also very expensive. My 1.6 TDI doesn't warrant that

Booked my car in for a service on-line, while doing it I thought I'd better get the brake fluid changed, £97!!! Last time I had it done (4 years ago) it was £61.
I also looked, out of curiosity, how much Cam belt would cost for my car, 1.4ACT engine, it was around £970!! I'm sure 2 years ago they were quoting about £480.

Change my PCV valve, all by myself. Pretty proud. Was getting some engine error codes on OBD (but no engine log ), an intermittent rough idle, faint white smoke, some juddering at lower revs in higher gears. Gasket looked kinda worn on the old valve. Symptoms have resolved and engine error codes have gone! 👍🏼

A little update on my car....

They have worked out what's caused the complete engine failure, which is within the warranty coverage, and have sent all the evidence to Seat Warranty and they have requested an independent assessor to visit the car and verify the dealerships findings before they agree that it is covered under warranty. What is working in my favour is they have within a matter of weeks, had a 2022 car with the same core engine and this car has the exact same failure.

There was an initial problem with my service history being recorded on the wrong type of servicing schedule (fixed instead of flexible) and there was a huge glaring mileage discrepancy on the main dealer system where my car dropped from 26,200 on June 2021 to 19,400 on July 2022... Apparently this wasn't picked up during the checks they supposedly did prior to me buying the car, so much for buying an assured used car LOL. Their explanation for both errors are typo, which can happen, but both should have been picked up by the selling dealership during the pre-sale checks as per their website. Apparently both issues have now been corrected but I will wait to see this in writing.

In the mean time, I am still without a courtesy car (it's been over 2 weeks since the drop off to the dealership and was assured a courtesy car would be delivered to me last Thursday) and after a lengthy phonecall with the tech dealing with my car, the last time they ordered an EA888 it took 3 weeks to arrive so couple that with the additional wait for an independent assessor, I can't imagine I'll be seeing my car before the 2nd half of Feb at the earliest.

An annoyance is if I had got Seat to collect the car, they would have dropped off a courtesy car when picking mine up but since that isn't stipulated in the warranty info I was sent and I wasn't told that when I spoke to the warranty dept, I paid to have the car recovered myself and that has been a factor in the delay.

The icing on the cake is the Used Car Warranty I have with Seat is capped at £1,000 per claim (up to the value of the car so 15 claims I guess) so they are also trying to work out who is paying for the rest of the £9,000+ bill between Seat HQ giving good will or Seat Bristol as the selling dealership.

I'm not in a happy place right now lol.
So, a little update on my dead engine saga after I went to the dealership doing the repair today...

The independent assessor has been out to inspect the car and has agreed with the findings of the dealership and the warranty company has also agreed that it is a valid claim. Green light!

I am SO relieved.

Now the battle begins to work out who is funding the replacement engine as the Seat used car warranty claim is capped at £1,000 per claim and the total bill as seen by me today on the job card is well over £9,000.

Still no courtesy car but that is being sorted on Monday. I have been without a car for 5 weeks in total come Monday, nearly 4 weeks since it's been dropped off at the dealership.

Overall I can't really fault the workshop controller or dealership where the car has been dropped off for repair apart from the delay in getting me mobile again, that isn't simple when the car isn't recovered by VW Roadside Assist and I'm not told that I even have Roadside Assist by the selling dealership.

All things considered, I've had much better service from the repairing dealership than the selling dealership by FAR.

I have opened up a complaint with Seat HQ to address the lack of pre-sales checks by the selling dealership as the checks would have highlighted the services issue, mileage error and they neglected to tell me about the roadside assist. Also to see if I can recover some of the costs I've had whilst I've been without a car and the cost of the finance for the duration whilst I've not had access to a car.

I am now in a happy place and will be having a brand new zero mile engine, with all the latest revision parts, fitted by Seat with a 2 year warranty on the engine and components on top of the rest of the warranty.

That’s great news buddy, let them fight it out as to who’s paying, it’s not your concern.

I’d really be checking that roadside assist as mine came with 2 years, and I’ve just had an email from Seat telling me I’ve been given 12 months free by the dealer it was last serviced at…which is great, although I still have 12 months of the original warranty 🙄 It’s petty that they’ve not provided you with a car, especially as it cost them nothing having the car recovered…

Other than that, it’s a great start to your weekend, enjoy 👍

The 1.4 ACT has a cam-belt fitted for the entire engine service life. I've first inspected mine as per schedule at 90k km (56k miles), looked brand new. I've inspected it again recently at 135k km (84k miles), which is well over the next scheduled inspection, but again, zero findings. It's still under perfect tension, there's hardly any wear to be spotted, and no signs of any pending disasters. All I'm saying is don't get work done, that doesn't need doing ;).

Could they not put the engine parts through individually as separate claims? Seems daft they can’t just approve their own warranty work, but rather than 9k for the engine with ancillaries, couldn’t they just claim for block, then pistons, head gasket etc?

I had a brand new engine in my previous car (a Toyota) as when I bought it approved used it hadn’t had a water pump recall done on it - engine then lunched itself about 2k miles later! Toyota UK replaced the whole thing with absolutely zero quibbles, I was only without the car for 10 days - and that was from breakdown to back on my driveway! Total bill I signed off on collection was for over £12k

That's a valid question but they order a crate engine from Germany which is pre-assembled at factory plus other parts to be replaced such as one time use parts etc.

Have you found out what exactly went wrong with the engine?
It'll be useful to know for people with same engine code.

I haven't, I'm not a mechanic and from what I know the repair is "full strip down" repair which I wouldn't do at home so the knowledge wouldn't be much use but as far as I know they have and are engaged with Seat Warranty and Seat HQ to work out whose wallet is getting a beating lol
