Surely it would be a bonnet up looking into the engine bay with the headline

"Seat's engine cover up"

Just need to practice the grumpy face in the mirror :(

I have just contacted customer services again, as whilst digging through all my paperwork it turns out I actually ordered the car at the end of september, thus was ordered whilst this part was a fitted item. QUOTE]

I think you have a point. Won't help me though. Mine was ordered and delivered in January. Will wait to hear what they say to me. It could be that a few contacting Autoexpress might move them along, if only to keep us quiet. Mind you according to them I was the only one who had contacted them about this.

This all seems very bizarre. I've just taken delivery of a brand new Altea 1.9TDI and it has the silver engine cover fitted - so why not on the Leon?

I know theyre new cars and you may be feeling a little cheated, but, does it really matter? My 1.4 had on and my 2.0l does not. i cant see a piece of plastic making a huge sound difference, and ok although it does make the engine bay look tidier it doesnt really matter as its covered with a bonnet 99.9% of the time. Seems like a lot of hassle for a piece of plastic.

Oh yes I agree, it's not the end of the world if I don't have one. It just looks a lot tidyer with it.

I agree. It is only a piece of plastic but imo it looks better with, than without.

My initial enquiry was just to see if it was an oversight somewhere. Now I would really like to know why they have removed it. It is unusual to go backwards in specification even if it is only cosmetic. It just seems so unnecessary.

I don't usually subscribe to conspiracy theories, and the like, but I can't help wondering what other corners may have been cut elsewhere.

Yesterday I sent off an e-mail to Seat customer services about my missing engine cover, I have just this minute had a phone call from them, very swift response.

There answer is that the engine cover was removed from the spec of the 1.9TDI and 2.0TDI from October 2005 (even though the car was only launched in September).

Not a happy bunny at the moment, but not really much I can do other than pay for one myself :(

So it's official now, new diesel's don't have them!

I got my 2.0tdi delivered in Dec and it has a cover over the engine. Looks well smart and finishes it off nicely:D

Just had my reply from Customer Services. I asked if I could put one on. They said that it is not (as far as they were aware) a part approved by SEAT UK (honestly!) and so it could cause potential warranty problems if I sourced one myself.

I am appalled by this attitude of theirs. They say they improved the spec at the time by putting an anti theft aerial on and that they can change the specification whenever they like. They want me to go back to my dealer but I am going to keep on at them. It was not the dealer that removed the cover. I am waiting to hear back from them as to whether it is an approved part.

I know it is not a major thing but the engine looks as if it should have a cover fitted and basically they have been penny pinching removing it.

I have the anti theft ariel and an engine cover. Does that make mine a special edition:p

this is part of seat ownership i am afraid.

more than likely it`s the dealers stealing them off the cars and putting them in there own stock.

I have just heard back from SEAT Customer Services and the engine cover can be purchased as a spare part. Nothing from them on cost. I had hoped they would offer it at a reduced price. It would come with a separate parts warranty and fitting it would not affect the general warranty at all.

Now I just have to decide if I want to buy one or not. I need to talk to the dealer. In the end it will come down to how much I can get one for.

Methinks I will have to try to get the part number and see if I can source one from other parts suppliers. Any recommendations anyone?

any i missed ?

my01 lost

Don't be suprised if SEAT customer services don't know what is going on since the factory did not inform anyone about the 'missing' engine covers. A number of cars now are supplied without engine covers throughout VWG.

The engines for which you can get engine covers (and therefore you would expect to have from new) are:

2.0 FSi (BLR & BLY engine codes)
2.0 TDi (BKD & AZV engine codes)
1.9 TDi (BKC & BJB engine codes)

There are also covers for the BLS 1.9 and BMM 2.0 diesels but I don't think they are sold in the UK?

If I read my codes correctly my car has a BKC code. I don't suppose you know the part number? Just a thought.

Thanks
