Engine Probs, any idea??

Girl friend has a 1.2 sx and had to have it recovered the other day, seat assist works very well.

I weren't in the car so can only give vauge description that she told me.

The engine warning light came on and the car started to run roughly with lots of lurching.

A coil prob was suggested but i haven't heard of many coil probs with 1.2's. Just phoned seat and they reckon it is the sparks?? dubious as the car has only just had 10 000 service. If it was sparks i would expect that to be a sympton of anothe rproblem.

Any one got any ideas what may be wrong??

Difficult to tell.

Do you have vagcom, or know anyone with vagcom nearby ?
You'd be able to read off the fault codes then.

You could post in the vag-com section and see if there's anyone nearby who'd be willing to help.

Is the car still under warranty ?

i assume this is a warranty job, if so Plugs will be covered.

However plugs can be a killer on certain engines, and you can get faulty ones every so often. I remember on my Old Punto GT i used to have to change plugs every 15 k as the car seemed to eat them. No real cause it was just the way that car was, and after a while the car would misfire and run real rough but show no problems on the examiner when tested.

Don't except it back until its fixed by SEAT

Thanks for your help. The car was repaired under warranty. Still not quite sure what was wrong with it. I know the AA replaced a coil when they first looked at the car. The dealership said the coils were ok but the sparks were knackered.

I wonder if a coil went and screwed the sparks???

Oh well fingers crossed that'll be the end of it.

The H.T. coil units sit on top of each of the 3 sparkplugs, with a rubber boot covering the plug insulator. These individual coils are notorious for failing, at a cost of ~ £25 each. You won't have any peace-of-mind until all 3 are renewed.
I fitted DENSO Iridium-tipped plugs also, for quick clean-burning, as I want to keep the CAT. from sooting-up, from short trip use.
