what did you and your mk3 leon do today

It’s already a facelift/mk3.5 - just fancied making some quality of life improvements!

My wife got a new mk8 Golf earlier in the year, which obviously has quite a few toys (even a full HUD!) which my Leon doesn’t - and which I’d never tried before. Classic case of you don’t know what you’re missing until you try 🤣

Among these were heated seats… which I’m now absolutely in love with as a gentleman with a bad back and of a certain age lol…. So this got me looking at retrofitting them. Bagged an absolutely lovely set of heated leather sports seats from someone that’d had their low mileage Leon written off… but that left me in a quandary of the new fronts then not matching the half cloth/half fake leather standard FR seats

So clearly the only sane thing to do was swap the entire interior 🙈

There is a retrofit kit (Audi) for the HUD but it's not as nice as the factory fitted HUD.

I cheated - and rather than a flap I stuck that section to the underneath of the bench instead! Just cut it to fit and laid it on upside down, then put the bench back and sat my fat posterior on it to stick it in place!
Haha thats also a way to solve that issue. I will be doing the boot shortly. Heard that also makes for a good difference (y)

@TripleBob fortunately my Leon Cupra has the heated seats fitted. They have become a must have in my book!

Yeah the factory fit mk8 golf HUD is a proper “peppers ghost” display, with absolutely no screen or patch on the windscreen to indicate it’s there - just a small cutout in the top of the dashboard for the projection. So it properly floats in front of you on the glass and is completely invisible to everyone inside/outside the car

It’s got virtual cockpit, but tbh the HUD renders it absolutely useless - did 300 miles the other week and literally didn’t look at the instrument panel even once!

I dont like virtual display, I love nice looking analogue clusters with a dab of technology added (the multicolor led display in the middle)
Ditto! I’ve used OBDeleven to enable all the extra views for her virtual cockpit (like the R,GTI and GTE specific views) but it annoys me intensely that you can’t actually customise it the exact way you want it.

Want maps full screen in the VC? Nope can’t have that. Want CarPlay mirrored in the VC? Nope can’t have that either. Want round dials and maps in between? Nope it’s square info pages with a map in between, or gauges only

Just do it properly or don’t bother VW!

Plus I still find the ‘needle sweep’ on startup on my analog gauges immensely satisfying 🤣🤣

Boot is done! So now covered from tailgate to rear bench. I’ve got the OEM boot carpet from the VW Golf Estate too, so nicely finished off now, even though nobody but me ever sees it haha

Will be doing the floor when the front seats come out - hopefully this coming weekend if I get time

Finally got round to fitting the Brake Fluid heat shield

Checked OBD11 and the 03 Brakes control unit does not have a brake fluid temp sensor so I don't have any way to prove what difference this makes. Next job is to fit the Turbo Blanket that should help reduce the engine bay temps.

I upgraded my new mib2 unit to firmware 516. Then I converted a steering column switch with speed limiter switching

Not so much the car but I did do something to the key today...

My key was battered so swapped out the board and blade to a different key and then slammed on the covers... Well happy!

Looks good. You just need a chrome key fob top now to replace the black plastic one - like the one at the link below. The ad says it‘s for a VW fob but I think that generation of VW and Seat / Cupra key fobs are the same so it ought to fit your fob.

I did consider doing this as it's only 1 T6 screw to replace it but... and most will laugh at this... I didn't because the plastic end cap will be quieter on my keys :ROFLMAO:

Got the new leather rear seats in! Bagged these from a low mileage car at a semi-local breakers yard (ok that’s a lie, it was a 2hr round trip haha) to match the new fronts that are going in.
Deep cleaned with a light steam, then Autoglym leather cleaner, a thorough wash down with a wet cloth, left to air dry and then two applications of Autoglym leather balm (buffed off in between and left to soak in, first application pretty much immediately vanished into the leather!)

They’ve come up amazing - they basically look and feel like new! Old half PU/half cloth vs leather:

Finaly i am upgrading my MIB2 6,5 inch screen to 8 inch screen. It was hard to find a damage free screen with the correct frame and also for a decent price. Finaly i found one a few years back the prices where a bit lower. Also bought a toolset for the old screen.
