Something weird happened today...

I DID SOME WORK ON MY OWN CAR!!!!

Don't get too excited though as it wasn't much but it involved pulling out some bits from my personal stash that have been tucked away for at least 2 years I reckon.

First off was to fiddle with the mk3 Leon Cupra multifunction steering wheel, this came off a nice low mileage car so is in great condition and that's accompanied by a brand new airbag.

I recently had someone make the conversion loom for the CAN-BUS adapter module as you can see in the photos, I haven't wired this in yet though.

Slight hitch with the airbag install though...the flipping retaining springs are missing from the wheel so I need to poach them from somewhere so it clicks into place but on the whole very happy with the way it looks and feels.

Oh and whilst I was at it I swapped over the nearside front door card that had suddenly developed some saggy pants fabric and irritating the hell out of me.

That steering wheel wiring looks fun. Do you get to choose the functions or is it a case of it’s just what the factory buttons are told to do (if that makes sense)?

Na I'm not looking forward to delving into that part of the install if I'm honest but I'll get there eventually.
The buttons will illuminate and do as the factory intended ie. Stereo controls, phone controls and I'm hoping it will integrate with the colour MFA display on the clusters as well.

So a little recap of why I've pulled the engine back out as I was quite happy with the set up apart from the fact theturbo was making an unwanted whistling on cold starts.
Also the brakes have never been quite right since the last master cylinder swap so instead of struggling to remove them both whilst in situ it was just better for my sanity to remove it all in one go.
And im glad I did as I sent the turbo back to AET for inspection and it was basically a write off and needed extensive work to meet specification.
So much so it didn't make viable sense to pay for it to be done in my eyes...so that's now been scrapped!

This leads me to my next port of call, something I wished I'd done from the start and began collecting up the following parts...

Garrett G25-550 turbo
Nortech manifold & downpipe
Turbosmart wastegate
Bosch 1000cc injectors
Ignitron standalone ECU
MAC 3 port boost solenoid

Low and behold, barely a fortnight had passed after obtaining the above parts or placing my order with Badger 5 for the rest (Nortech stuff is custom made to order)
Something else kind of special popped up that I couldn't really turn down

But if you've seen the Officially Gassed YouTube video then you'll know it had a tasty engine in it running 481bhp...

It was and I ran it for a week but in all honesty it wasn't all to my taste and completely impractical for me.
Plus I prefer my grey one anyway.

Both engines are now both side by side getting stripped down for cleaning, swapping, tweaking etc.

This photo was taken last week and I've progressed a fair bit in the past few days.

This is where I'm currently at with the latest lump.
All ancillaries were removed, block has been deep cleaned and painted black.
Yellow rocker cover swapped for another freshly painted grey one with new stainless fixings and new Elring gasket.
Oil filter housing, ancillary bracket and engine mount bracket all painted grey to match.
Fluidampr and cambelt covers have been freshened up with tough satin black paint.
I'm just awaiting a few more gaskets and seals then it can go back together fully.
