Updating the inbuilt Mib2 Satnav / Mib2 tricks and Mib1

So I had some free time during the weekend and after upgrading to 515 mib firmware, I decided to give it a go and update the maps too.

After some studying I read about the "overall" file workaround and so I downloaded the latest maps. Unfortunately I formatted (and not deleted) the V7 card that came with the car (after taking a backup) and then copied the new maps with the old overall file. Everything works great but I still want to ask:

1) do the maps lose their part number code after this procedure? I now got a blank part number. No 6Pxxxxxxxx anymore.

2) now the maps only work when the card is placed in the SD1 position. Up to now and according to the manual the maps SD card should be placed in the SD2 position. Now when I put the workaround card in the SD2 position I get a "sd card faulty" message.
1. The 6Pxxxx etc comes from the part number on the map file. Each new release has it's own part number. The release includes part numbers for Skoda, Seat, VW, Audi etc. In the old days people hacked the part number in the release to cover up they had done a map update. They didnt need to. Suspect it might be the 515 firmware that is suppressing that. Either way the release guide number is 1810, the latest maps. I wouldnt worry.

2. I've always had the map card in slot 1. If you could get away with slot 2 before but can't now, I'd put that down to the 515 upgrade.

Thanks for the easy question... 😍.

Thank you for your pm the other day!;)

I considered myself an mqb specialist but a whole new world appeared in front of me with the mibsolution link! Now I may have to try to upgrade my retrofitted acc into predictive acc. I just can't help myself.

Here's what I mean by missing the maps part number. (excuse the greek)

I noticed today after updating my maps 2 weeks ago that TMC is no longer working and has a strikethrough the TMC sign. Does anyone know a workaround to get TMC data working again?

# I have MIB2 on a facelift Leon. I think 1810 is the map update version and Navigation is working ok.

Any help appreciated.

It won't be the map update. TMC is only received on specific radio frequencies. Classic FM and other commercial channels in the UK.

The check if it's working is:

List of available traffic reports
● Press the Infotainment system MENU but-
ton and then press the TRAFFIC function but-
ton.

Question have you updated the firmware or played about in the 5F unit e.g.. coding. A classic one that retrofitters do is not turn on the TMC or get it wrong. That's a coding setting.

We use TMC 15 in the UK.

What it should look like in Obdeleven under Adapations:
Screenshot_20220502-202208.png

Whether there is another setting that you could have fumbled, I didn't find one, but it won't be the navigation update, it's knocking a setting / changing firmware with the TMC channel not set to 15.

Hi Tell, thanks for pitching in. No firmware updates or any coding, odb devices attached. TMC worked when I bought the car a couple of weeks ago, did map updates 10 days ago and only noticed today TMC not working.FYI Classic FM working..

Any other ideas / workaround?

Thanks

Could be a transmitter failure on not providing the data packages. You could revert the map update if you have the backup if you believe it's that.

Will check on Wednesday when we take the standard unit for a long spin. Normally long drives use my car car with mib2 high where it functions fine. Country roads with the Arona where the only jam is a tractor 🤣. Will just check then.

Also said you set a route to say London where there will be jams and check for that, there is an on route function as I recall. I do widen the search criteria when looking at the map if I think it's not working round here. Think a slash across TMC means its not decoding the signal. 0 means no reports. Let you know with the map version units if its working fine. I'll see whether there is a slash across it on Tuesday eg. tomorrow.

----

Edit additional info discussion from a Land Rover forum may be old:

You can get a conflict that your unit locks onto the commercial carrier in the UK (TrafficMaster) rather than the free service on Classic FM, if this occurs you get the slash symbol:

A long answer - but hope it helps those interested...

The TMC service is provided to Land Rover inder a Ford group licence to iTIS

ITIS launched its UK national TMC service ("iTMC") in January 2002. Since then it has become the leading commercial TMC service with most of the major car manufacturers and leading satellite navigation system providers in the UK.

iTMC is provided under licence directly with its business customers who include:

Vehicle Manufacturers & Brands
Bentley
BMW
Ford
Jaguar
Land Rover
Lexus
Mercedes-Benz
Mini
Nissan
Porsche
Renault
Saab
Subaru
Toyota
Vauxhall
Volkswagen
Volvo

Aftermarket Navigation and Mapping
Alpine
Blaupunkt
Clarion
Kenwood
Navteq
Panasonic
Pioneer
Tele Atlas
VDO Dayton
Zenrin

iTMC is broadcast on a unique and exclusive RDS sub-carrier licence on Classic FM, the UK's only national FM commercial broadcaster. The service covers 95% of the strategic road network in the UK and draws its high quality content both from ITIS's own Floating Vehicle Data (FVD) network, the worlds largest implementation of FVD, as well as other important journalistic sources which provide "cause" and other important driver information.

ITIS has been a key player in the development of TMC and Europe and remains active in the industry.

From the above - stolen unmercifully from the TMC forum (http://www.tmcforum.com/en/home.htm) you can see that the only station that the Land Rover TMC service should be tuned into within the UK is Classic FM.
I understand that in parts of the country, there are some anomalies over FM frequency allocation, and the RDS signal should sort this out - but unfortunately it occasionally doesn't when the nearby and conflicting station is also a TMC broadcaster (like Chrysalis radio) - broadcasting Trafficmaster TMC services... used by other manufacturers like Honda..

No fix possible on this one - since you really have NO control over the data sent you, nor do you have any control over who sends it... that's all decided at the licencing stage.
It's unlikely that if the TMC service in your vehicle works - that anything is wrong with it even if the re-tuning of the service becomes a pain... the unit is built to find the strongest signal for the licenced TMC service - if that happens to be on a slightly conflicting frequency, and RDS doesn't help out by re-tuning to the correct service (due to the frquency allocation conflicts) - then the TMC unit tries to decode the TMC information from another provider - but cannot do so because it's not licensed!

Hence the TMC unavailable icon in the top LHS of the screen.

I understand all this stuff - because I had to once... and yes, it happens to me too. But IMHO the benefits - because 95% of the time it works well - outweigh these issues.

Hope this enlightens...
Regards

Muddy
(Once had a commercial interest in TMC services..)

Ok tested the mib2 standard TMC is struck out on that. Tested the mib2 high, TMC isnt struck out, some other icon, but no reports. No traffic reports around London. We can conclude they have TMC network problems.

Will try on the standard unit tomorrow again in a more urban area. There is probably a web link somewhere that tells you whether TMC is working.... that which I can't find. it won't be the map update I'm sure.

Hi, does anyone know where I can find MST2_EU_SE_ZR_P0515T?
516 is not difficult to find, but 515 seems to be well hidden... Thanks!

Think you win the prize this time round. I'll see what MartiniB is doing on the Briskoda site. I was keeping my feet up from looking till mid May at the earliest, month before the scheduled release. Yes they had 197 mib2 high release (Seat Plus).

Mib2 High / Seat Plus Release June 2022

MartiniB's trusty links for the high all Europe as per normal (June 2022 release)l:

# ECE 2022-2023 25.9 GB
Version: V03.959.818.H 197 ECE 2022/2023
DevVersion: P197_N60S5MIBH3_EU_NT_Q3.21

Published: 2022.--.--
Škoda portal: https://infotainment-cdn.skoda-auto.com/base/maps/HIGH12_P197_EU_202222.zip

# Rest of World 2022-2023 24.3 GB
Version: V03.959.818.K 0101 ROW 2022/2023
DevVersion: P101_N60S5MIBH3_ROW_NT_Q3.21
VW portal: https://vw-maps-cdn.lighthouselabs.eu/vw-maps/P101_N60S5MIBH3_ROW.7z
VW portal: https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/P101_N60S5MIBH3_ROW.7z

Last time round in June 2021 Skoda messed up the zipping so probably best to stick with the VW ones. Having tested 7zip on the Skoda release that is now fine. All signatures tally so the VW and Skoda release are the same so can be used with the Seat high / plus unit if your navigation FeCs allow. Mib Tool for that if you got the appropriate firmware it works with or upgrade to 1447 AIO or use the boards retrofitter East Yorkshire Retrofit if not confident with software. This release does support Seat navigation FeCs, June 2021 it didn't. November 21 was fine. You had to use a Skoda FeC for the summer release last year - all good on that front. For DIY firmware changes see the resource to this post (top left - Overview) and the Mib2 firmware thread. This thread mapping updates only.

No these are the June 2022 issue coming out. They do break cover a month before sometimes.

The standard one 1910 is the all Europe one that is opening to 15.2 GB so with FAT32 format which you must use it won't fit on then 16GB card. The zoned permutations of Europe always come out later. Have to wait for them if required.

To harp on again for anyone reading this for the standard Mib2 on a Seat you must follow the workaround instructions. Take a copy of the card and follow the "Overview" tab top left.

eg. under workaround on the link

Standard Navigation Map Release June 2022

We have the whole release a month early.

On these ones you do have to use the workaround and DON'T delete what is on the SD card without copying it since you need a file from it to make it work and DON'T format the card, just delete the contents. Watch out if you use a Mac for this, suppose to use Keka and CleanMyDrive on the SD card if a Mac.. Use the zoned releases if you have a 16gb card or the language trick covered in the resource to fit ECE AS on the card or get a 32Gb card. All map files are interchangeable across the VAG brand for Mib2 FeCs allowing - they are identical premade to across VAG.

Resource link on how to do it:
