Convenience Control Module Swap

A few weeks back my door locks started going crazy while driving, could smell burning and smoke coming from the dash, car has been in the garage since and had the whole dashboard stripped out to discover a melted convenience control module. I have been in touch with seat motor parts and been quoted just shy of £400 for a new module 6Q0959433E Q2F There are loads of these for sale on ebay but with difference end 3 letters numbers, does anyone know with certainty that I can just buy a £20 used unit from any 6L Ibiza and get it coded to my car? Would save me a lot of money and stress!

Garage have managed to get a brand new one from TPS for £250 so that'll have to do, being fitted and coded tomorrow and then the whole dash is being put back in.

Safer bet to do it this way mate. At least your not trying to recode a used unit only to be told it’s not worked when you have just been charged for labour etc.
I know it sucks moneywise but your doing the right thing.

That was totally my thinking, if I got a used unit off ebay and it either didn't work or ended up melting again I'd be screwed. At least it's on the garage if this doesn't work, and it if breaks it has a warranty.

Something I’ve learnt is when you go to do the job cheaper using second hand parts you’ll end up paying twice from my past experience. Not always the case but not worth the gamble when paying a garage to remove a dash etc.

Right, ANOTHER update to this saga. The garage can't get one from TPS, the person was quoting for the wrong part, they can only get one on back order from VW in 5 weeks time at a cost of over 400 quid. So I've managed to get a brand new genuine one from OEMVWPARTS, they DO need to be specifically coded to each car, they need the VIN. So it has since been sent to SEAT in Spain, and is now finally on it's way to me, and it cost 270 quid instead of 400. So maybe in the next few weeks I'll finally have my car back!

From what I’ve read it’s a common fault over time on all VAG cars, someone on an Ibiza Facebook page has exactly the same issues on his Cupra TDI with the anti hijack locking and unlocking randomly every drive, I guess it’s just over time they wear out, someone one BriSkoda had theirs melt out too for no real reason.

Well after buying a new unit from seat for 400 and the garage fitting it it's melted again, anyone want to buy a Cupra TDI that they can't lock :ROFLMAO:

Honestly I have no idea what's going on, some major electrical fault somewhere, I'm going to have to take it to an auto electrician I think and get my 400 quid back from the garage for ruining the new part.

Spoke to an auto electrician who seems to think this is more of an ECU fault than electrical so will probably have to take my car to the main dealer for a new ECU and CCM.

What an absolute nightmare this is! Car is now at Seat, they are utterly baffled, they have never seen anything like this before. They suspect this is an ECU fault, the new CCM is fine, it never got damaged, the coding on all the modules keeps getting corrupted for some reason. Seat are spending a few hours looking at £100 an hour cost, if they can't sort it the car is going up for sale cheap if anyone wants it.

And that's the end of the Cupra, Seat have called, they have been in touch with the main techs at Seat and nobody can fix my car, they have never seen anything like this before, aside from a new ECU and rewiring the whole car and another new CCM and BCM costing thousands there is nothing that can be done.
She will be going up for sale cheap so if you want to gamble that you can fix it then be my guest. Only 160 of these left, probably only 20 with the convenience pack like mine.

Sorry to hear that mate. What sort of money are you hoping for? Shame it’s tdi I have wanted a black 6L for nearly 10 years now but 1.8T

I have no idea what I could get for it, there are none for sale at all, only seen 2 for sale this year and went for nearly 4K. I'm going to have one last go to fix this myself. After speaking with the tech at Seat he is inclined to now think this is an electrical short. He said any CCM will work and can be coded, so my plan is to buy a cheap one off ebay, buy 2 used door looms and see if that fixes it.

I’m glad to hear that mate will be a shame to Have to sell it. I’ve had mine for 8years roughly and In that time have been looking for a black 6L cupra and only 1 has ever come up on eBay for sale in a 1.8t this car won’t lose you money think of what ever it costs you to fix is a investment as in years to come it’ll be a 8k car if you look after it. Just look how much people want for the mk1 Leon cupras these days.

Little update if anyone is bothered! Finally got round to swapping the passenger door loom out last week, and yesterday I tackled the CCM. First off, you don't need to take the dash out to do this, you can get to it under the pedals fine. I unplugged the unit that the garage fitted that cost me near on £400 quid, and just like the original part of the circuit board had melted. I plugged in the cheap 20 quid used ebay one and pressed the inside lock switch and to my surprise the doors locked and unlocked. I then set about programming the keys, following a nice guide on here I did it. So my car now locks and unlocks fine, however I want to disable auto locking at 15mph or whatever it is as that is the issue and always has been. I don't know if I can do this with VCDS lite or not? Anyway, after over 500 quid over 3 months, 2 garages, the top Seat Tech from the main office telling me this was impossible to fix, little old me who works in a library has fixed it (pending the removal of the autolock feature).

Just another point, had another mechanic and my uncle who is very good with electronics take a look at the second burned out unit. The units aren't melting due to an electrical short, they are essentially overheating because the lock was sending a lock/unlock signal to the relay over and over and over. So it's either bad wiring in the passenger door, that I have now changed, OR, as another expert auto electrician said ages ago, the door lock isn't lined up correctly with the car body and the lock isn't fully locking when auto lock kicks in and it's sending the message over and over again to lock and unlock until it burns out. I think I have finally cracked it after nearly 5 months.

We are definitely bothered mate your post will help other people who might get this problem. I’m so glad you’ve figured it out and got the car back on the road as it’s another 6L cupra saved from the scrap yard as there is under 180 taxed cupra 6L on the roads last time I checked.
