"Nigh on perfect" meaning it doesn't have to be flawless but near enough, I guess I've been lucky so far because I've only come across one other lemon in 20 or so cars. Anyway, stuff happens and it's not the end of the world. It'll get replaced at some point..

This isn't about getting a lemon, that's obviously unacceptable.
Why wouldn't I? A car costing 40K should be nigh on perfect. Plus there's something obvious that keeps getting missed here, if nobody else is having power issues, or ride comfort issues and I've got a complete lemon... Don't you think it could be the car hmm? I can only form a basis on what I've got and that could be the reason it's not representative of others.

Besides the interior of course but plush trim isn't even in my top 5 list of wants or needs. Just an update on more issues, its started pinging my phone at 3AM saying the heater isn't working and something's leaking inside the engine bay. Great, that's issue 37 and 38..

Anyway, I honestly think this thread has been quite interesting. I've taken on board what some have said and I'll update later on...
If you're getting the auxiliary heater warning on the phone, then it's further evidence that an update is needed. I was getting this until my car had its update which fixed all the problems I was having with it.

I didn’t cite anything. My Cupra Relations Manager passed all the details to them that had been reported by my Cupra Dealer and the Factory in Spain. I did forward a video of the ACC doing the MOH/KPH thing with my car rapidly braking and accelerating too.

Main issues were ACC (as all have got), Blind Spot detection acting like Disco lights, Lane Assust throwing me all over the road and giving me messages to drive in the centre of the road when I was, RVC not working, KESSY not working, Virtual Pedal not working. Dealer sent a report to the factory in Spain who returned with the message that they couldn’t fix the faults.

I didn't know that you were having trouble with yours. Have you thought of a replacement or did I miss that too?
Sorry to hear of your trouble with it. So disappointing.

I work in dispute resolution, and this reference to "nigh on perfect" remind me of a case I had to decide many years ago when a car-buyer made a claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act against the provider of the credit card he'd used to pay the inital deposit on his new car. He said he'd expected the car to be "perfect, flawless in every way". When drafting my determination, I was soooo tempted to short-cut everything and just say "Shouldn't have bought an Alfa Romeo, should you?!" :)

I've had 4 Alfa's and didn't have an issue with them (within reason), it seems my criteria for nigh on perfect isn't all that grandiose.

@EuKiwi

The car is on 1803, I was told by Cupra that's the latest version but I'll check again. As for the rest, well the performance could definitely be linked to technical issues. As said the MK3 Seat Leon Cupra I tested had plenty of power.

I was on the latest version also apparently, but they at the dealer installed updates that I presume are not available over-the-air.

I'll check my infotainment versions later and post here.

In terms of performance, that must be the case. I have previous experience with a MK3 Leon Cupra AWD estate 300 and the Formentor is absolutely on par with it - not sound, sadly, as the Leon didn't have the shite PPF killing noise, and the Formentor is quite tame in terms of sound in comparison.

You could of course just go test drive another to see if there is a difference.

Is it the automatic tailgate refusing to close?

I know that there was a problem with some VW group cars and the shocks having too much resistance in them which caused the mechanism to think it was obstructed.
It was, but I forced it shut. It’s just another issue on the list.

So what did VWFS say? Any contact from their side?
They sent me an email today which states because of the concerns raised in my email they have raised a complaint which has been escalated to the Resolutions team. It also states they have up to 8 weeks top carry out a full investigation. I won't hold my breath, but I have a contact n umber now and will become a real nuisance if I don't have much joy. I just want to know the options and potential cost of getting out of my deal.

Make sure the car has been to a dealer recently or you've at least tried to have your issues resolved. The first thing VWFS will ask for is logs / service information etc. Although I will say they are pretty good, they gave me the option to either send the car to auction / get a full(ish) refund or keep it for six months until my replacement arrived. I received the 8 weeks message as well but it only took them about two weeks to get back to me.

In terms of cost they said to me it was based upon a projected auction price vs. length of ownership. Meaning the difference between what you've put in and what they'll get for it. I could have gone down the full refund route but my dealer isn't local, it would have probably cost more in fuel going back and forth, I'm not sure when the issues would have been resolved nor at the rate of them cropping up how long this would go on for. So I just paid a couple of hundred and got rid, plus I've had it for 3 weeks and it's about the same as a regular payment. Can't complain..

Overall I'm rather impressed with the customer service from them.

Mentioned previously I'd provide my software details. I have an earlier infotainment I think, hence why the main software version appears lower.

All my numbers are the same as yours, except that my display unit/control panel software is 6069. Perhaps that is the update they performed on your vehicle?

Mine is booked in for an update, I presumed it would be the 1803 one but maybe it will be the 6078 one instead / as well as.

1790 is the over-the-air part, the other software element is dealer-only, so that makes sense.

1803 is an update only for other models of the infotainment I think, not for ours. I'm fully up to date anyway, and no 1803 for me. :)

In any case, ever since I had the update, I've had absolutely zero problems with it.

Spoke to the dealer today to provide feedback on the update and inform them that it's been fine since the update - took the opportunity to ask which element it is that they updated and they confirmed it was the Display unit/control panel software.

Thanks for confirming that, I’ll report what updates mine receives when it goes in.

Worrying thread. I've just put in an order for 1.4 e-hybrid.

Every manufacturer pops out a few lemons and it's unfortunate but these things happen. Also despite my harsh criticisms I don't hate the Cupra (far from), a lot of my factors were based upon price and its equivalents. If I shift the paradigm for a second and compare it to the M140i (25K) that the Cupra replaced or the older gen Focus-ST (23K) that preceded the M140i, then I'd say the Cupra is a cracking car with an annoying / distracting infotainment and control centre. Although let's face it, they're not the only manufacturers going down this route..

Of course there's inflation, demand, brexit etc. to consider and I do think the Cupra is worth more than the ST or M140i (manual) I had. Anyway I scoured the internet for prices before I bought mine but avoided any random brokers with a few Feefo reviews. Compared to Nationwide Leasing the Cupra dealers were about 500(ish) out so I just went for it.

As I'm really out of options here I got a few quotes from said random brokers and the difference in price is about 4.5K?! For that there is nothing and I mean nothing out there that I'd even consider, comparing it to a Stinger is now like comparing a Fiesta to a C-class as there's about 9K difference in it. I'm off to test another M135i tomorrow, it's quite a bit more expensive and the Cupra was a very fun car (when it worked properly) so it's going to be interesting.

If picky old me is considering another then I wouldn't be too worried :).

P.S Just one more thing to note, it seems that Cupra are working through the issues with their digital systems. Don't quote me on it but by the time you get yours I suspect there won't be any major problems, just something to consider.

Looking at another VZ2 or maybe a VZ3 but depends as I’m leasing and lease prices have increased.

Tempted to look at BMW M235i xDrive if I move away from brand.
