Hey guys unfortunately i am getting this error message literally 3 weeks after the warranty has expired. I have read on the VW forums that its likely caused by a fault in the gear selector. Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone have an idea how much this would cost?

BTW car is remapped by APR (stage 1) which i will be removing tomorrow

Thanks

I used to have an error on my old gearbox where I had to put it in P turn the engine of and then back on again and it cleared it.

There were some threads I read that said it was a communication error between Gearbox control unit and main control unit.
Never caused any issues other than being a pain but in my case it only happened once or twice a year but cant recall the error message.

My Cupra did this once, turned off and on and never did it again. First thing is to get it diagnosed and then contact SEAT UK CS to see what they can offer, they usually offer 50% of the cost will be covered by them if you push it hard enough.

As the car has been remapped it will likely show a TD1 flag regardless if I removed the remap - do you still think they will honour the goodwill gesture? Is there any point in chancing my luck and attempting to extend the warranty now and putting a claim in afterwards?

Flash the ECU back to normal and send it in, speak to SEAT CS service before you send it in, they might contact the dealership and book it in for you.

Dont mention any modifications or else can kiss anything good bye.

My 2015 Leon cupra 280 has also started doing this. It’s happened about 5 times the last few months but the errors just go away? What happened with yours in the end?

yes if they scan it which they most probably will they will see it has been mapped even if the remap has since been removed

13 months since that member posted that.

You would like to think that they would have come back with what happened next and what they did to sort this out, that is how these forums are intended to work!

I had the exact same issue on my 2015 cupra st 280 with the dsg.
There was some issue with the contact to the gear selector and they changed part 5Q1713059J.
The part was about 295 euro

Hi, I had the same problem with my 2015 Audi , Same issue Had a secondhand gear selecter fitted lasted 8 months then done the same
Also there is a recall on the VW models with bad connection in the loom to the selector . A new selector is £500 same as Audi plus the fitting which Audi quoted me as £500 . I would find a VW / Seat specialist . its the microswitch in the selector unit that wears and when you keep moving to d and park this wears the switch.

This is a common problem with VW group DSG vehicles with the old style gearstick style gear selector.

The problem is caused the the failure or grease and dirt contamination of a small microswitch that is located under the centre console at the front (dashboard side of the auto stick). The gear selector physically pushes and depresses the micro switch to indicate the "P" park position. When the switch fails the car cannot detect that the gearbox is in the parked position.

There are two solution. Firstly the "Italian Tuneup" method which involves slamming the gear selector in the "P" park position 20 or 30 times to clean up the connector surfaces in the microswitch. Secondly you can replace the microswitch by removing the top and side of the centre console and replace it with either the grey or white version of the switch. You will need the switch part number for that !

The good news is that the fix is cheap and is done from the driver's seat. No auto gearbox work is necessary. Look it up on You Tube.
