Ok, so I’ve had my cupra a couple of weeks and I’m looking into what mods I can do.

There are multiple threads on lots of different things but I’ve not been able to find more details on some things so apologies for asking stuff that may be answered somewhere within 300 page long threads..

First thing is the lack of USB port, I’ve bought the cable but being a 64 plate it’s in the glove compartment which sucks, I’ve seen the USB port on eBay, is it easy enough to fit?

As it’s the 280 its really quiet so I’m enquiring on having the front silencer removed.

I’ve bought a reversing camera that will fit straight into the light port above the reg plate but I can’t find a decent tutorial online on how to do it, there is one thread that is very cloak and dagger without many real answers, anything else on this? And can carista/obd11 able to code the reverse camera to work?

Apart from a remap what else are quite decent but easy/cheap mods to do? I know the sound actor will be unplugged soon before anyone gets on about that noise..

Thanks :)

Try a pedalbox - will make the throttle more responsive. Shouldn’t affect your insurance as it doesn’t increase power but check with your insurers first.

Front splitter is a definite yes. OBD eleven very handy to have. dog bone insert. and the res delete. I've only got the front silencer out and sounds great. both would be too loud imo

Thanks for the suggestions, I looked up the pedal box, how much of a difference does it really make?

What are the most common mods with obd11? I have a feeling the previous owner had it as it has 1 click mirror folds and some other things I can’t remember! I will be getting one though, or carista, carista is the same but works with iPhone if I remember right?

The front splitter I’ll definitely consider, I’m not sure I want to take away the subtleness but it makes a massive difference to any car.

Cheers :)

@theoldboy is the best guy to ask about obd eleven. there is loads you can do. the increased traction on the lsd is good. one click mirrors. I activated the locking chirp. Traffic sign recognition is good too. Theres loads you can do.

Changes to the lsd? I like the sound of this :)

Hopefully get some more comments on ob11, there’s loads online about it but again it’s about knowing where to look for the best info. Like I say one click mirrors I already have, don’t have sign recognition so that would be quite nifty.

What about tyres are everyone running? This came with cheap crap on it so I’ll give them some use but I’ve read some good reviews on kuhmos, I know the Michelin PS4’s are the “best” but they are a touch out of price range at the minute.

Welcome to the site and Cupra ownership both are fun.

OBD11 - Good place to start is here
The big performance changes are throttle response, LSD Settings, XDS settings, Remove Torque Limiter (not till you have dog bond mount and or good tyres)

Carista is fine but it only allows you to do what Carista Give you but OBD11 Is much more like VCDS and puts you in full control.

Tyres PS4 are great tyres, PS4S are currently the go to ones to have, if you are into track days then the Cup 2 Tyres are good.

What a thread that is! Thanks, looks like it’s obdeleven for me then, seems though reading the list mine has a number of these mods already done. Compass, oil temp, digital speedo, lap timer and a few more.

What’s the downsides of the dogbone mount? I did see someone mention more vibration at lower speeds but is it even that noticeable? And any specific brand or do they all do the same job?

I always say I’ll do track days (closest to knock hill) But realistically at the moment it’s unlikely, tyres I’ve looked into the PS4s but I’ve they’re so damn expensive.

Thanks for the response gents.

I've got the forge dog bone insert. When I first drove it after fitting it I was convinced it wouldn't last a week. low revs , reverse and idle was horrible. 2 weeks later and it had settled right down. wheel hop is gone. Highly recommended one.

Settled down as in you no longer notice it or really there isn’t any of the vibration remaining?

I’ll need to check it hasn’t had it done already, it does only have 20k miles but with all the stuff enabled it wouldn’t surprise me if I came across things already in place.

With the strong lsd setting will this make a drastic change in the pad wear or are people running it all the time with no issues? Also the throttle response one; would this give the same/similar responses as a pedal box?

Thanks :)

Personally I stay in standard mode and only change to strong when I am driving through lots of tight turns (Cadwell Park for example).
The XDS Settings can impact your pad wear and certainly from what i have read its recommended to turn this down / off when going on the track.

If you get into this stuff you will see there are lots of nanies on the brakes (like the Torque Limiter which will try and stop wheel spin in 1/2/3)
They joy of this stuff if you try it out and see what it does for you.

Throttle response some like it some say it does nothing but the theory is that it makes it changes the pedel to power response to be more like the old wire to carb setup.

Lastly I would also add that with this tool you can do lots of live data recording which I find very helpful.

So obdeleven is ordered, thanks for all the info, I’ll most certainly be trying out some of the functions in the link above.

Almost certainly remove the torque limiter, tried a short 0-60 and it’s definitely noticeable.

Thanks again for all the comments/knowledge, I’ll more than likely to be back asking more once it arrives. I’ll keep posted on my progress. :)

Obd is great so you will love that. Just a quick question did you manage to fit the new USB ports I would be interested in this. I have also read about wireless charging dock.

I just found them on eBay and posted the picture to see if anyone had done it, as of yet the obdeleven is my first purchase along with a reversing camera which isn’t the quickest of jobs it seems!

If it was as simple as plugging in the USB ports then I’d buy them now but it never is that simple, I have a wireless charging holder so I wasn’t so fussed about that.

The other option would just be getting a long usb to usb cable and have it coming out somewhere in the centre console, probably far easier/less time consuming way to go.

Module came today, time to learn!

Oldboy a few questions if that’s ok.

How do I know if my car has the camera for the road sign recognition? Also when I click my full beam on and back to normal there’s an A, is this some sort of automatic dimming lights so I don’t blind others, would this be done with the same camera to recognise road signs?

Also in the link you shared there’s a lot of options for DRLs and indicators etc, I’ve been trying to find out what each of these do (rather unsuccessfully) so in your opinion what is the best mod to do with the DRLs/indicators?

Also to be a complete pain, aside from the torque/diff settings that I’ll be playing with, what are the most rewarding mods to try?

Thanks :)

Almost forgot to post my first “mod”, pressed plates now on.

Getting the alloys refurbished on Monday as they were advertised as perfect and they aren’t basically. Thinking of keeping the colour the same or a light grey to go with the diamond cutting, any opinions on this are also welcome as I can choose any. :)

Thanks,

Just done some mods to get me started, it already has majority of the “apps” Installed, but I bought the pro and went in for some decent coding.

Removed the torque limiter, one word... wow.

Throttle response, again what a fantastic change.

I left the xds settings alone for now.

Lsd settings to improve traction

I was going to do some more in dept long coding to do with the led/indicator lights but because I’m using a tablet that’s using my iPhone as a hot spot it was jumping on and off connecting causing some issues so I bailed out of that.

Will look out for more decent mods, some wouldn’t connect when trying (like changing the car to an Audi, but I think the throttle response already covers that...)

Any suggestions welcomes
