Most new car tyres have 7mm of tread on the middle tread blocks with some manufactures having less on the edges.

Tyre wear is so different between drivers, tyre of roads used and the type of tarmacadam on the road surface..

I had them on my FR from new, grip was ok but the wear rate was absolutely shocking. It appears that the newer 6's are no better for wear either. As a result I would never consider buying Continental tyres in the future.

just to report back on this.
Since last time I measured which was at 1900 miles thread depth was 6.5mm . Now at 3500 miles it's down to 5.6 mm

So I lost ~1mm of thread / 1600 miles ( this was mostly motor way + some spirited B road in Wales )
Or look at this way. From new 7mm to 3mm u only need 4x1600=6400 miles )

Conti 5 are crap I've only managed 7k miles out of them on my previous Cupra 280 and most of that mileage is a steady commute to work and motorway miles with the occasional spirited drive. My advice would be to wear them out quickly and replace with something else, Michelin 4s get the most positive feedback although I'm yet to try then myself. I got my 300 in March so not worn out the fronts yet. Someone at SEAT needs to read all this and not fit rubbish tyres to the next Cupra and give it the tyres it deserves. I'm sure some of the negative press reviews are due to the tyres they fit as oem. SEAT shoot themselves in the foot, fit crap tyres get average road test reports and lose group tests in the press when actually the car would be so much better with decent rubber. Why not fit decent rubber and probably get better reviews and more sales.

ok so after 1900 miles, I still have 65mm thread depth ... not sure if it was 70mm or 80mm when new ?

They didn't use Crapinentals for the Nurburgring sub 8 lap. When you could spec the sub 8 pack on the 280 you could also get as an option Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, which happen to grip well, so I'd guess they were what they used for the fast lap.

had those on my FR ... horrible grip, loads of wheel spin with just 150BHP, At least the Crapinentals grip well

I'm at 5k and still have 5.4mm left, wear not as bad as I thought ...
however now that summer is over, in cold wet weather they are hopeless
