New Turbo but.....

Ok so I have had turbo issues with my car (not boosting then making loud noises, then finally chucking oil out the exhaust) so I swapped out the KO3 for a KO3S with new seals/gaskets. Also fitted a boost gauge, which moves (although does seem to jump around a lot rather than smoothly going up, not sure if thats normal), but the car just doesn't feel quick on acceleration. The car has had the turbo fault from the day I got it so I have nothing to compare the power/acceleration to other than my old MK4 Golf 150bhp GTTDI (being diesel the turbo kick is obviously more than stock petrol due to massive torque). The N249 Solenoid does not 'Click' when running VAG-COM output tests so feel this is probably faulty. Any ideas what else could cause the car to feel a bit 'meh'?

Also, not sure if this is relevent but also from the day I got it, and still even with different MAF, the T/C light comes on whilst driving (not all the time but most of the time) and stays on until you turn the ignition off.

When i fitted it to my audi it required remapping to get the full benefit dont know how true this is, worth ringing up bill or rtech and asking

Op what car have you got?

MK1 Leon SE/Sport 1.8T (APP Engine Code). Car is fine just when it hits around 4-4.5k rpm it hesitates and boost drops from15psi to around 8psi and holds there. 1st and 2nd gear rev smoothly without the hesitation or boost drop, its 3rd, 4th and most noticeably 5th and 6th where it has the issue. I unplugged the MAF as it was suggested that this could be the problem as the ESP light comes on when it hits peak boost and stays on until engine is turned off, but the problem was still there, it just made the car smell a lot and drink fuel. It has now been suggested to take the small hose off the DV and plug it up and test it as it may be that the N249 is shot and therefore keeping the DV open all the time.

+1. I've got no first hand experience of this mod, but with the extra air that the k03s supplies over the k03, i would imagine that it would need remapping. I could well see it confusing the ECU if it's seeing more airflow than it thinks is possible.

From what I read about that engine,

"APP and AJQ are 180 BHp 1.8 turbo petrol engines found in Leons, Audi A3s and Audi TT's"

so this should have already had the "ko3s" turbo fitted.

You would think but the APP was very early, so its just a slightly mapped KO3

Learn something new every day with the 1.8t lol. Then yes map would really be needed to get the full benefit and just to be safe with the almighty a/f mixture for that turbo like as stated above. Tbh I'd say don't boost to hard till then.
Be like us with the "ko3s" changing to ko4 and just running with it...not gonna happen

Ok thanks, I was just going by what I have found out on Golf/Audi forums where people just straight swapped and it worked without problems. It's going in on Weds for a Rolling Road and leak test to see if they can see an issue with it.

That could be down to fitting it to an engine that has the older ECU and no map sensor like the agu found in both golf and a3.

Ok....I pulled off the little hose that goes into the top of the DV and blocked it off, now no obvious boost lag and it pulls like crazy

What dv do you have? Stock? Maybe faulty
Top end hyper price dv? Maybe to tight/wrong spring not sure on these as I don't use them.

Tried 3 different DV's (including stock one) and all had the same issue with that hose connected. Where does that hose go?
