Hi,

I need to replace my two front Bridgestone turanza er300 225/45/17's that have managed a respectable 21,000 miles but would like a change of make.

Below I've listed my short-list but would like some feedback on how you guys would proceed.
I don't want to spend a fortune so would be happy with an old version as I know the new one's like the PS4 have only just hit the market.
What would/have you done?

Cheers

I would go for Uniroyal Rainsport 3's everytime. Absolutely brilliant tyres.

I have just got a couple of new tyres. I was vey close to going with the uniroyals as a lot of people rate them highly but a few threads I read said the walls were a little soft (although you wont get much better performance in that price range)

In the end I paid a little extra for Eagle F1 Asy3 from F1 Autocentre. £177 for the two (as I had £2 off per tyre code) and I also got another £4.50ish of via quidco, so about £86 per corner- that was for 225/40/18 though so your may be a little cheaper.

My moneys on Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2.

I got mine cheap on Amazon then paid £8 per tyre locally for fitting! (I got mine for £68 per tyre)
Excellent tyres and loads of grip even in ice.

Wish I'd been able to find local fitting that cheap! Best I could find (Milton Keynes) was £15 per wheel. Tyre itself was only £75 at tyreleader but adding the fitting charge mean the money off and quidco at F1 made it cheaper.

I'm having x4 Asymmetric 2 put on in March (winter tyres off). I was too cheap to go for the 3's and to be honest, I don't think they are that much different. More of an update than an all-new tyre. Got x4 tyres fitted and balanced for £500 (235/35/R19).

Thanks, I was thinking what's the difference between Asymmetric 2 and 3.
Might look at 2 if you think there similar.....like a bargain lol

look at tyrereviews.co.uk

Some big brand name tyres review really badly - eg Dunlop SP SportMaxx, Goodyear Efficient Grip.

Dont buy a tyre just because it's from a "name".

I replaced my original front Conti SportContacts after 27k miles.

Put on some Uniroyal RainSport 3, as I'd used them before. They gave great grip to start, but they've only lasted 12k miles, and they seem noisier.

In fact, my original SportContacts on the rear have more tread left (after 39k miles!).

What speed and load rating did you guys go for? I've got a Mk2 1.4 FR and confused with the 91 and Y etc. My current tyres are all random 225 45 17. Cheers

My 2014 2.0TDi FR ST came with Continental ContiSport Contacts on it and they were good, if not very hard wearing, now have Firestone Firehawk SZ90 on, bit cheaper, seem to last longer and a little quieter

Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2 Just ordered for my FR. Event tyres 176 fitted at home. Had them on 2 heavy diesel civics and they were a really good tyre. Quiet, great grip in the wet and got over 20k miles each time. btw replacing stock Bridgestone Turanza at 29000 miles on the front. pity they're a crap trye re grip etc...
