He literally turned around saw us jumped in it and went off... I didn't fancy putting my face near red hot pipes tbh

The Autocar article states that the 'Cupra R' will launch in late 2014 - assuming they mean the Cupra and not the R, has the expected launch date now moved from Q1/Q2 to the year end or is that another thing they got wrong.

To summarise your trip then AJB, you got a couple of photos and no detail of anything Cupra or Cupra R related then

The purpose of my trip wasn't for the Cupra though was it?

It was a Leon ST launch I wasn't expecting to get any Leon Cupra details the photos were a bonus... If you ask any of the SEAT ES guys anything about the Cupra they just say wait and see

Yes, and yes there will be a Leon ST Cupra :p

The AWD ST now looks unlikely to hit the UK market though

There is one thing that might be a downer to all this good talk and thats the new ECU these cars are going to use.

Audis new diagnostic software checks for software updates and changes and if they are detected your car is flagged as modified and its good bye warranty.

i would imagine that VW and SEAT will be upgrading to this latest diagnostic software and maybe Audis policy.
And if thats true means either writing off your warranty or waiting for the mods to begin.

I cant understand why SEAT dont do a Mountune style tuning package , they must know most owners love modifying their products , and if they embraced it they would actually make more money from it and have a sustained customer base , actually maybe sort out the customer service first

Oh and Andrew as no one asked was it DSG??????

That's already happened as i got screwed over for having a remap on my 11 plate leon but seat said they would un-flag it if I bought a new ECU

The only thing that we have been told for certain is that the New Leon Cupra SC & 5dr will start production in Spring 2014 and will be offered with 2 power outputs 265ps or 280ps. We are assuming the 280ps variant will be part of a performance pack upgrade like VW offer on the New Golf GTi (Remap, Ventilated Discs and the Limited Slip Differential) It may also explain why some of the test mules photographed have different types of discs & callipers from one another.

Celtic tuning so not the best but as soon as dealer plugged in diagnostics it flagged up which stopped them claiming for warranty stuff from seat even though that dealer occasionally uses the tuner.

When was the 280ps / performance pack mentioned in any posts? I must have missed that, is that a certainty (as much anything can be pre official launch)? Where was it communicated?

Having driven the mk7 GTi with PP i think a Cupra with a diff and 280bhp will be great. As long as it comes in around 1300kg it should be a winner and IMO no need for 4wd. Assuming the platform characteristics are carried over, the chassis composure on the Golf was superb so I don't see why the Leon can't be the same.

Yes the 2 different power outputs are a certainty they were communicated internally on SEATs Intranet to the network a few weeks ago. The performance pack is a presumption on my behalf but it would make sense taking into account what VW currently offer on the GTI.

All of the cars so far come in under 1350kg kerb weight with the 2.0TDI 184 being the heaviest so the cupra should be lighter

Looking like good news all round then, just need a sensible price now and it'll be shaping up to be a winner.
