Take my Stage 1 LCR to Stage 2, or save and get a 2.0T K04 car?

Hi all,

As it says above really, I have an ovni LCR running a strong stage one, it has B5 TIP, 007, F&R ARB's, ploy bushed front end, just had a major serice 2 months ago including a gates racing cambelt, 2 gaskets replaced, coolant leak fixed, as well as standard coil packs, plugs, oil etc. VT track engine and dog bone mounts, I also have a catch can ready to be fitted. So as far as I'm aware all I would need is a full exhaust system and FMIC...?

What are peoples opinions on keeping this and adding the above, or getting a 2.0 K04 charged car....

Also worth pointing out I believe it will need a new clutch in the not to distant future and I may be tempted to fit an LSD at the same time. The LCR has just turned over 100k (2002) and whatever I own is hopeful about to become a weekend car as I should be walking to work.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

mk2 cupra imho
more advanced platform car

not without its own inevitable SEATisms like the mk1.. (water features etc) but a stronger platform/chassis. Looks are bland.. interior finish is low end..

Thanks for the reply, not keen on the MK2, looks like a 4x4 IMHO, and I would want a K1 or R and even then i'm still not bowled over by the looks! The MK3 R on the other hand looks AMAZING.

Been looking at Ed30s but the Pirelli Edition golf has a MUCH nicer interior. not sure i can warrant paying to premium for an S3 even though I love them.

I wouldn't want to spend much over 10k...

Depends how much power/how far you want to go I suppose. Obviously the mk1 is a far far better looking car ;0

I've heard stage 2 with the LSD is a bit of a beast?

Personally I would continue throwing cash at the LCR and eventually fettle the turbo..

The mk1 LCR has to be one of the best looking 5 door hatches ever! I'm not quite sure how far I want to go but an exhaust, intercooler, clutch and LSD will be a fair few pounds.... So I'm trying to work out whether to save the money and get a 2.0 K04 car.

i was having a similar dilemma with my LC, love the car looks and drive etc but was it worth keeping it and chucking some cash at it (thinking that whatever i spent would be less than a new car)

I decided i would mod and go stage 2... i think i made the wrong choice. for every upgrade there's maintenance work to be done(as is expected on a 10yr old car), i've already spent the value of the car and ive not fitted the intercooler yet, and when i do decide to change the car it will be worth next to nothing as already its 10yrs old with 100k...

Personally i would go new car route, but thats through my personal experience... don't get me wrong i still love my LC and enjoy the drive but financially the decision to keep it made no sense.

Bear in mind as well that the seats are expensive cars to run, a newer faster hot hatch would likely be less to tax and get a better mpg

Thanks for your input mate, any modded car has no money in it really and I'm prepared for that. I know people get 340+ on the 2.0tfsi cars! So wondering whether to settle for 280 ish on my LCR or save and get a 2.0.

I'd go with the 2.0 TFSI with REVO Stg1.

Stg2 LCR is good but not a huge step up from Stg1 LCR.

Find a ED30 and go for a test drive before you splash more cash on the LCR.

That's what i'm leaning towards but struggling to justify the cost of an ED30 +stage two mods over the mods for my Mk1.

How about a 2.0 TFSI transplant into the LCR?? would cost less than the extra money to go for a mk2

Haha, would be amazing, not sure insurance would be affordable...

The MK2's always remind me of the Honda civic type r for some reason

Having owned both the mk2. Is quicker and more free revving.

The mk1 is better looking but the bttc kit on the mk2 is just as nice.

Both interiors have theere pluses.

The edition 30 have smaller brakes than the cupra and cost alot more.
