Doesn't that just help remove a misted windscreen, not actually de-ice the outside?

EDIT: remove the mist, not the windscreen!

I've found mine to be excellent compared to my old Mk2 TDI - in some cases the demister actually made the screen worse! I had a passenger once who witnessed it too - we couldn't believe it.

It does surprise me how easily the Mk2 and Mk3 mist up though, especially overnight.

I've seen some suggestions of running max Aircon for the last minute or two of your journey before leaving the car overnight to dry up any moisture inside the car.

Silica gel bags have also been suggested, something I considered for my Mk2.

I had the same problem this morning Dean :( I'm not sure though if it was the fact I've just came from owning a fiesta which had the luxury of a heated windscreen!

My mk3 is exactly the same, seems to take ages to demist.

Especially the rear which was pretty much instant in my old Audi when I turned on the rear heater.

Like my Mk4 Ibiza, I notice there is one more increment on the fan speed after pressing the screen demist max button. Mine was struggling a little until i pressed that this morning.

I noticed that it did seem a little slow this morning but assumed that was just because I was comparing it to the heated windscreen in my Fiesta!

The rear cleared really quickly though!

I noticed that, I think it was a few clicks but made little difference. I put the ac profile on strong too.

Been driving mostly diesels since the mid 90s and I still cannot believe how quickly the Mk3 1.4 TSI gets up to temp.

I have been suffering from the misty widows syndrome (only at work) but it clears really fast if you put the air flow onto screen (A/C comes on automatically) and put the fan onto a high speed.

I have checked carpets etc for damp and everything is fine. Put it down to being parked about 3 ft from a river in the office car park and the damp gets into the car through the vents. On the drive at home I don't get the misting anywhere near as bad.

It's part of the new engine design.

" Regarding thermal management, the EA211 petrol engine is equipped with a modern dual-circuit cooling system. That means that a high temperature circuit with a mechanically driven cooling pump cools the basic engine, while a low temperature circuit flows through the intercooler and the turbo-charger casing. The cylinder-head circuit heats the cabin's interior. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head, enabling the engine to warm up more quickly, in turn making heat available quickly for the passenger cabin. "
