Have read the thread and noted the clock shift issue etc

However, if I have a facelift leon 1st registered in 2010 with factory fitted bluetooth already in, I sholdnt have any issues retrofitting the RNS-510 mfd 3?. It'll just be a case of plug n play and id only need the extra fakra lead to make the sat nav work?

Cheers

Just finished installing mine, many thanks to all those who contributed to this guide as it proved very helpful. I found mounting the GPS Antenna between the air vents and passenger air bag seems to work:

gpslocation_zps640a4e30.jpg

Gets good reception and it picked up my location straight away. Some people have said you have to drive for a mile before they realise where you are but I didn't have that issue.

I also found that as my car is a pre-facelift you need to adjust the quadlock connector and splice in the SAFE Pin. This took me a while and a lot of frustration!

Finally if anyone needs to get one of these units decoding, I found a guy in Portugal who can do it for €10. He just needs the model number, part number and serial from the sticker on side. None of the Chinese sellers on eBay offering decoding could do a SEAT unit. PM me if you need the details.

Have you anymore info on the Quadlock and SAFE issue?

I have a pre fl, when I installed my RNS it just went straight in. Just had to alter coding to knock the compass off the mfd.

I think it depends what unit you are fitting, the newer ones require a permenant 12v feed on Pin 16 which the pre-facelift Leon doesn't have the wiring for. My 2010 RNS 310 wouldn't power up without this. To get round you need to 'slice' the 12v connection from Pin 15 to Pin 16. The correct way is probably to solder it but I botched it using a bent paperclip which seemed to do the trick.

I'll need to remove it at some point to replace the cracked screen so might tidy up the wiring then.

Only other points to note is the Antenna connector in the car pre-facelift is single but the radio requires a dual connector. You can get by using the single connector but the signal won't be as strong as it should, so an adaptor is reccomend. In addition the AUX connector on the centre console no longer works as the wiring is different but I'm not worried by this as the RNS 310 has its own front aux connector.

I certainly wouldn't call it an easy install process as there are a lot of things you need to find a way to work round, but certainly do-able if your feeling brave!

Here's mine finished:

Very happy with the end result, the standard pre-facelift stereo was apalling so this is a big upgrade! Got the 2012 maps (supporting 7-digit postcode entry) and my music loaded onto a 8GB SDHC card :)

Ah. Thanks for clearing that up.

I have a version B RNS. It had already been in a Leon, so the facia and aerial adaptor came as part of the bundle.

Everything seems to work fine.

Thanks again.

Has any one tried any of these from ebay they are listed as rns510 style. Few of them for sale for £300

No but from using similar units to that in the past I wouldn't bother. Just cheap and poor quality Chinese rubbish.

When the RNS 310 is available for well under that price, and 510 for just a little more, I don't see any appeal in buying something that isn't OEM.

Up to you but just my opinion :)

Wasn't sure if they was Chinese copies as the shop is uk based but I know that means nothing really. But I agree worth spending a little extra for the proper stuff. there is talk of different versions on this thread a,b,c etc. there is a few on ebay with versions up to p. I'm guessing this is the part number suffix as the units go up a level. I have a seat Leon fr 550 on a 08 plate. Which version will work in my car

08 means you shouldn't have any battery drain issues so in theory any of the VW units should work. As per my earlier post you may need to change some of the wiring though dependant on which unit you fit, but nothing major. Main parts you'll need are a fascia and GPS antenna.

What is the difference between the different levels. Are they just software updates no hardware change. So I could buy a lower level which seem to be cheaper and update software to latest level

Hey,
do you guys notice any sound improvement after fitting RNS 510? I hate oem player because of sound quality, but afraid to upgrade in terms of wasting cash.
