I posted this in the dyno graphs section, but no-one must of seen it or maybe you didn't care. :cartman:


Popped up to Awesome on Saturday, went mainly to check out a fellow members Cupra K1 that has recently had a Helix Clutch kit fitted. So I could way up whether I want it... which I do but thats for another thread after Nov 5th when its booked in for fitting amongst other things. :)

However Awesome also had a Lupo RR day on, and I had nothing planned so I hung around all afternoon and generally made myself at home. :)

I asked that if they had space could they chuck the Cupra on the dyno at the end of the day, its not been dyno'd since last year and has had a few small changes since it achieved 340hp & 360ftlbs torque last December. John kindly made some time to run it just before they shut for the day.

Since last December's run its had the APR back box removed and replaced with a Milltek CAT back to quieten it down. The APR was too boomy to live with, I've kept the superb APR down-pipe but its much more liveable now its got a quieter back box. I also switched from the ITG intake to the Forge Twintake mainly as I prefer its look under the bonnet and its a little more drivable with the Twintake.

John had a couple of aborted runs due the rpm pickup not registering, which we think is down to wet tyres in most cases. But he got it sorted and he did 3 runs back to back.

Best run today produced 346hp 380ftlbs clutch power, not bad at all on the APR software. It either got a bit warm on the final run or the oem clutch slipped, but oh my does the oem clutch stink :p Its well on its way out. :cartman:

Nothing else will have changed, but I felt it had to be a fairer comparison to run the car on both once the new clutch is fitted rather than change it now with a pretty flakey oem clutch.

For those interested here is the graph from last year on the same rollers. Only difference is it had the ITG on and the full APR exhaust.

You not tempted to go for the Revo free switch over?

Was considering it, but decided at the moment its just a waste of money to change, requires me to borrow money and the sensible side of me is telling me not to hang an albatross around my neck when the Mk3 Leon is only a couple of years off.

I looked at Audi's, but good ones are mega bucks. The trouble is finding something that is as good a package as the Cupra, and nothing much is except another Cupra and I don't see the point of the debt when what i've got is perfectly fine. It might be more than 3 years old now, but its only just done 11000 miles. :D

I'm much much happier with the car than I was a few months ago, now the exhaust is sorted its a nicer place to be...APR = far too boomy. So I think i've actually got the bug again.

Based on figures on other cars, the difference should be pretty impressive. Most of the cars with a similar level of tune and REVO code do 360hp+

Pump is a very worth while addition, mine gained around 35-40hp across the mid-range when the pump was installed. Bear in mind though you need the correct map to take advantage of the pump.

Its not slipping under daily driving conditions, but generally its struggling like mad to reign in more than 360ftlbs of torque right across the midrange. The other factor is not keeping the clutch in contact with the flywheel, at high RPM's it can occasionally spin up or jump up revs suddenly when flooring it hard.

Not uncommon for the OEM clutch to fail on the Cupra, same thing happens to Ed30 Golfs too. Just big torque and power it wasn't designed for, hence time for something more suitable. :)

Stg1 cars would probably not be as susceptible as a Stg2+, but even I've heard of failures on stock cars.

That's exactly the same as me, apart from my car has done a lot more miles!

I couldn't match the power and all round useability of the car (I have a wife and child), or justify the outlay for a possible inferior car (Definitely in performance anyway)!! I cant seem to find anything that could replace the Cupra for under £20k!

I stopped at stage 1! Now beacuase i have decided to keep her for a little while longer i've stage2+'d her...just need to sort my clutch out! :rolleyes:

I've had original clutch on my Cupra with no problems up until now at 38k miles. About 35k miles of that has been on stage1.

Cant beleive the stage2+ figures that came out on the dyno lottery tho ---- 397.2bhp :confused: Taken with a pinch of salt mind you and I think their rollers needed re-calibrating! lol

I've just hit 29k and I have no intention of swapping mine, as already mentioned I cannot find anything that will do everything the cupra does without spending silly money. I'm tempted to go down the stage 2 + route providing it doesn't hurt the MPG too much in normal driving, i also want to play around with the suspension and change the wheels. I'll give revo a miss too, it'll be a Jabbasport map for me. Oh and I need to put a radio in that works in !

If that's a stage 2 not plus then you are going to say goodbye to your engine very very soon or the place you got your dyno done is about as acurate as Robin Hood using a tennis racquet instead of a bow !
