@elpaulio, it actually worked for me, lol. Although the gauge lights turn off when the Sweep is happening, and I have no idea why.

I went into Adaptations, clicked on Staging, then checked it from "not active" to "active" then clicked "Do it", and this is the message I got:

Well thats a touch annoying ;)

Good you got it working though, I think it automatically turns the lights off so all you can see is the needles for some mood effect.

I notice you have a petrol, I wonder if it cant be done on the diesels?!?

I will have a play tomorrow and see what i can make happen!

One thing I have also noticed, which may be unrelated, is that it takes age to open up the adaptation window.
It is connected with Protocol: UDS but the spinny thing goes very slowly and as I say takes ages to load the window. Anyone else noticed this?

I tried clicking in other options and had the acvtive/not active options available.
Also tried security access with no success.

It didn't take long to open for me, just the same time it takes for the "Coding" option to appear.

Sorry about that, paulio, I guess this isn't your lucky day. I know this is probably far-fetched since you already have a VAG-COM cable, but have you tried visiting a garage or an MOT center that have VAG-COM and having them take a look at that?

Tarekelsakka,
No, only had the car 5 days lol!

Will try again today and see what I can find but I'd be interested to hear if anyone with a MY12 FR TDi 140 has managed this with the same P/N for the instruments!!!

Mine is an MY12 FR TDI 170 and I enabled staging.

Sounds like you have a VCDS or cable problem. Can you access ther modules and make changes?

Find someone local who has VCDS and see if they can do it. If that works then your VCDS or cable is the issue.

Hi Nath,

Cable connects fine, reads codes fine, clears codes fine and has accessed the Coding area of the Instruments and changed to Rest of world with no issues.
Also, when in Adaptations I can access other options with a view to changing them.

I'm starting to wonder if its only the 2.0TDi 170 that can do it and not the 140.
If you get a chance could you check what PN your dash is? In particular the last three numbers and letter?

Cheers

Hi Greg,

I've email Ross Tech with the info to see what they say, but it seems odd to me that the option for staging is there in the drop down (i.e. the label file) but the channel is not available.

I'm starting tot hink that the latest models have a different dash binnacle where its not available.

Take it you're not planning to come up again any time soon? I've only got the car until Tuesday next week then the wife is back.

TBH, I'm not overly fussed about it as I'll probably not get teh drive the car that much but it's just annoying that it didn't work :(

It may be the software release you're using? I use VCDS 10.6 and has worked on numerous Leon's pre and post facelift. Not right away, maybe towards then end of the month. My girlfriend goes to uni there so I'm up and down quite a lot. Next time I'm up I'll be sure to give you a shout :)

Greg,

I'm using the latest download 11.11.4 so I would be shocked if VCDS would stop it happening.
Can't downgrade VCDS either as I have just done a lead firmware update.

Definitely give me a shout next time you are up and can give it a try if I've got the car!

Update.

Got a response from Ross-Tech, looks like Seat may have changed the Firmware to stop this working :(

"The Staging function isn't available on all instrument clusters firmware
versions and the channel (availability) is blocked internally in the
cluster firmware. As a rule of thumb, if the channel comes up as N/A the
only chance to access/enable it is via directly altering the setting in
the memory/firmware - which neither VCDS nor the factory tool can do.

The main reason why it takes time to access the adaptation channels is
because VCDS is collecting and adjusting data for the adaptation
function at that point. A faster laptop/processor does help - especially
the 64bit version of VCDS runs a lot faster. So yes, assuming you are
running 32bit on a not so recent machine such a delay is expected."

Would certainly be interesting to hear from some other MY12 owners to see if they can activate it.

Well I don't think it's the MY, to be honest, as mine is 2012 as well. I'd say you should visit a local MOT center or garage which has VAG-COM and see if it'll work; if so, then there might be something with the cable, regardless of whether or not it works fine in other aspects.

Hello Tarek,

I don't know of any other garages except the Seat one which has VCDS.
It's not just the MY that's applicable here but the cluster part number, as yours is a petrol your cluster will have totally different firmware from mines.

Until I hear from someone with the same P/N cluster from a MY12 2.0 TDi 140 that has succesfully enabled staging I'm just going to accept it can't be done.
