2001 Cupra Mk1 Replacement Remote Key Issues

Got a 2001 Cupra that only came with one non-remote key. I purchased a second hand VW flip key and had the blank key blade cut and followed the programming instructions to no avail. Then I went out and bought an original second hand remote keyfob from an actual Leon cupra.....went to program it and again no joy in getting it to program!

What can I check to ensure this issue isn't being caused by a remote receiver issue or similar....is there any fuses I could check??

The manual should show which fuses are what, although if you haven't got any other issues I'd guess it probably isn't to do with the car, but more the procedure. Which procedure are you following? There is a flip key sticky thread which has a procedure in the very first post, and then Lee69 later links to a very similar but slightly different method.

People always seem to have trouble getting keys matched, I'd give it another couple of go's before trying anything else, as it could easily be the method you are using is incorrect.

Also, check the battery in the fob - I recently tried to reprogramme a key and realised half way through that the battery had died.

I've tried the all the methods mentioned in the flipkey thread and also the red lights are brightly shining once the button is pressed.....and I haven't got a handbook with the car so no idea which fuse is which!

Have you got an existing remote key that works ? The fuse that operates the remote central locking also does the interior lights aswell

Vehicle only came with 1 key and it's a non-remote one hence my wanting a remote key.

When I've been looking for a second hand replacement remote key they all seem to be the 2 button type with red LED.....I've never seen any without the LED and I must have looked at over 30 of them!

Yeah the early key fobs didn't have the LEd and are hard to find, but it needs to be 433mhz.

The original seat non flip key has a led on it that lights up,the flip keys are 433 & 434mhz,the reason i asked you if you had an existing key is because ppl go for the flip key as an upgrade

Ah didnt realise that,be better off going for an original non flip key then that should work,u'll get ur money back for the flip keys on ebay

That looks the same as the second remote key I purchased!

That 1 should be ok,might be worth going to the dealer see if they can sort it

Have now tried a second Flip key, and 2 more remote keys and they still will not program!

The frequency is printed on the side of the key once you have split it into the two parts you should see it on the button part. Where abouts are you?

South Staffs, what frequency are they supposed to be? I know I've read about them being 433 and 434mhz but was also that either should work!

433mhz as mentioned in post's #6 and #8 you have the same age Cupra as mine and only 433mhz will work.
