Cupra R - cost v colour

Hi all,

I'm on the lookout for a Cupra R, but I'm torn between colour vs cost. Theres a good choice out there at present, but the prices across the UK vary by anything up to 4k for the same spec car and same age, but different colour. For instance I've seen a Yellow R June 2011 for £18700 and a White R Sept 2011 for £22500. I know its all personal preference for colour, but would you take your 3rd choice colour (yellow for me) and save £3800 I doubt the white one will be worth £3800 more than the yellow in say 5 years time, so this makes financial sense, but white looks really good.

Is yellow ok, or is it a colour hard to shift later on? Looks ok with white alloys. Candy White is my preferred choice, but I'm not going to pay over the odds just to get one now.

Colour is, very much, a personal choice, that price difference won't be because of the colour. Prices can vary dramatically between dealers, there seems to no agreed price structure. May also depend on how long they have had it up for sale, I saw a massive price difference when I was looking, even at the same dealer. If you want Candy white, shop around, you'll get one at a decent price.

just get the yellow one and wrap it in any colour you like, you'll still save quite a bit

I agree with Tim the prices range dramatically for what on face value appear to be very similar cars - I have been looking for an R myself, and for me its a toss up between Red (again) or Yellow which I think really suits it.

Interestingly though Yellow is no longer available on the R and has been replaced with Tribu - now that really is a Marmite colour

I got mine bout 6 weeks ago and found that there was a lot more yellow around. Maybe that is affecting price. I went for track grey tho and havn't seen another 1. I think just go for ur 1st choice if u can afford. U'll walk up to it every day and admire it so makes sense i think!

To be honest, the yellow mark ones always seem to fetch a little less too. I think your right there Al.

I think I can explain abit realistically as I have just bought a Yellow R (2010) couple of weeks ago and I was in same situation as you.

Firstly, you need to see that colour in the flesh which is a crono yellow I think and if you don't like it then walk away. Before seeing my car thats what my plan was but after seeing it wasn't strange at all and it had couple of other extra things which other cars in my choice of colour didn't have like xenon's and sunroof but with the price difference of good 4k it was a no brainer to let that car go just because of colour which in all honesty has grown on me and whoever has seen it just given me positive remarks.

If you're getting it cheaper than you wouldn't mind selling it cheaper would you ? and thats only if no one wants to buy in that colour but if anyone is looking for that colour car than you can get even good money.

Did consider a vinyl wrap, but that'll be another £1000 ish to the price so may as well hold out for that colour. I will be doing a carbon roof wrap if I get white and also having the wheels powder coated anthracite.

can't seem to PM you as you're a new member but it was probably the chepest and well spec'd R in the market and only had 7500 miles on the clock and was a demo. It came with a 2yr service pack from the date of my purchase.

Go and see it in the flesh and you wont regret it. When I was thinking about getting this one and I showed the picture to my wife she said dont get it but now she says its quite nice.

I have made the mistake in the past compromising colour to get a car quickly, was happy until I parked next to the same car in the colour I wanted. Don't get me wrong whatever colour you go for, it is a fantastic looking car, but you need to think how you would feel if you got the yellow and a white one pulled up next to you at the lights.

I have a soft spot for yellow cars (first car was yellow) and completely agree with you it looks the dogs danglies. but I just think if you want one colour but get another for cost, everytime you see the colour you wanted, will you think I should have paid.

Also bear in mind that you may get either a 2011 model year or a 2012 model year car at a different price.

Although the two cars you mention at the start of the thread seem to both be 2011 there does seem to be a number of low price yellow knocking around. Back in August there was about 7 or 8 speed blue cars all varying in price from 16-23k with not that much difference.

This white Nov 2011 one maybe 2012 and have media 2.2 and led rear lights. Unfortunately the description does not state one way or other so would have to wait for photos.

When white was the in colour to have the white cars seemed to hold their price really well.
I dont think colour really affects price at all now , seats and yellow go hand in hand , I think speed blue is a more sought after colour at the moment , I don't like black on Leons because they all look bland.

My neighbour has a white Cupra R so I'd see that until it's sold as it the same one up for sale at one of my lcoal SEAT dealers, but is £21500 which I feel is overpriced (Jun 2011). With the crap weather I can wait a few months and have the car I want and that can stay clean. Was hoping that at this time of year dealers would be pricing to sell and I could get a bargain. No real incentive to buy in the middle of winter. Will enjoy the 43MPG out of my Jag derv for a while longer

Mods wise, if white its the roof and wheels. If yellow then wheels only. Will also fit a Forge catch tank. I think 261bhp through front wheels is on the limit so no stage upgrades. ANy money saved can go towards a replacement for the other halfs Mazda 6 with 110k on it.

I love my yellow cupra r. But wouldnt recommend buying a car if you dont like the colour, its just a no brainer if you ask me.
