PD130 Upgrading and Tuning

Hi Guys,

After having my car a month now, I am very happy with it.
I am looking at some performance upgrades and I am getting some sort of list and ideas together and would like to see some clever modifications and maybe some nice cheap and cheerful ones ! :D

My Car currently stands modified wise as:
160 Intake (apparently)
Seat Sport Strut Brace
Some Loud genuine seat standard exhaust (mine is the 2003 shape aero)
Remap (I want to get it Dyno'd, apparantly 185bhp)

So far performance wise I have got this in mind.
Decat/Miltek Exhaust
Pipercross Reverse Airflow Induction Kit
Breather Filter (stop oil going through the intake)
Front Mount Intercooler (Dont know which one yet)
EGR Delete ( I am removing the Vacuume pipe tonight )

Hopefully Buying coilovers Sunday.

Please throw me some awesome ideas of any kind!

btw, I have searched and searched.

Just want some new ideas !

Cheers!

Has the car been remapped? I highly doubt it will dyno at 185 with a standard turbo. Iirc the max is 170bhp.
As for induction kit, I dont think you'll see any gains and I would stick with a green panel filter (like many others use)
A good brake upgrade is the 312mm kit as found on Audi TT 225 turbo's, S3 etc. Plenty info and people here to give you info from their past experiences.
Be aware with having the egr delete, this will put on your engine management light and it will need mapped out.
As for oil breather filter, im not sure how effective this will be

Hi

With just a pd160 Intake I wouldn't of thought it would be remapped to 185bhp I'm running 180bhp and that's with more bits on ie intercooler, exhaust, Decat ,airfilter ect

The standard turbo can with stand 200bhp I only know one lad my self who ran that and the turbo didn't last long at all

The standard clutch can with stand about 310 lbft

If it is running 185bhp I'd prop get the map taken of and start fresh spend some money on other bits then stick another map on last when everything's been done

Also as for the egr I'd leave it on u less you goin hybrid

Hope this helps

just a map will see circa 170 not 185 as mentioned

PD160 intake is about as good a intake system as there is, when combined with a panel filter

get the Seat Sport FMIC....or the new forge one

Milltek Decat turbo back system is very good, although lots of people get the cat cut out 9mufflerecotmy) and give sames results

Why would you leave the EGR on unless going hybrid? Doesn't make much sense to me.

I'd recommend everyone remove there EGR, even on standard cars.

To the OP, if you remove the EGR then you can leave the ccv into the intake as it doesn;t do any harm. Its only a problem when the oily vapour meets soot from the egr system and gunks up

EGR doesn't work/open on full throttle, so there is no performance gain.

Right, so, is there any point in getting the newest pipercross with reverse air flow? I would cold air feed this and make sure there is no hot air getting to the filter.
Also, silicone boost piping with front mount intercooler.
Decat and miltek exhaust system.
Breather filter.
EGR Deleted kit and run a boost gauge off this.
Audi TT brakes (drilled and grooved?)
Green stuff brake pads.
Coilovers (picking some up this weekend)
17" alloys with some decent tires (toyos?)
Found a site with a hybrid turbo and bigger injectors (might be worth me getting)
Then a remap to top this all off ?

oh btw, my 0-60 is 7 seconds on the dot.
My clutch sometimes slip if I try this.
I have no idea what else is done to this car?
For all i know it could have a cupra turbo or injectors or something as it has the 160 intake.
Any way of me finding out?
Cheers

I would factor the price of a new clutch before doing anything else, also a new dual mass flywheel aswell.
Theres no way of finding out about the turbo unless looking at it but its hard for access. Has this car been remapped? Alot of people add the pd160 intake and its a simple mod so that doesn't necessarily mean its got a pd150 turbo etc
I would just go for the above mods that you mentioned (minus turbo and induction kit) turbo can be done when yours gives up the ghost ;) if you go straight to hybrid, then want more power youve kinda came to the end of the line unless your going into serious money. I really wouldnt waste your money and time with the reverse flow induction kit and cold air feed. How much does it cost and what exactly is "reverse flow" a pd160 intake (which you have) and a green panel filter is an adequate set up

The reverse air flow is designed for Turbos and allows the turbo to Surge more freely....Not that Surge is good for it, but apparantly its better for the Turbo to have this...could be a load of rubbish, its £180.
Where is the best place to get a green panel?
Oh, yeah, my car has been mapped (not by me, previous owner)
It also had Launch control mapped into it ( Youtube this =D )
I love my map at the moment, I will need to find someone that has very good feedback.
What clutch would I have to go for ?

Cheers again for the replys

I would put that £180 towards a whiteline rear anti roll bar (which iv yet to buy!) You can get a green filter from Badger5 on here
As for clutchs, the two main ones are helix and sachs. Not sure if theres any real difference between the two, I got a Sachs one from JKM performance

Thanks! :) Front left lower arm bush is gone, doing that monday, sunday im sending off my dash for a rebuild as the fuel gauge is dodgy, repainting calipers and changing my fuel filter.....buying hids this weekend! let the work begin!

cheers :)

Are you fitting Cupra bushers instead of standard bushers

Only other way to find out about bhp is get it on some rollers

Heres one of the first videos I found....

Also digby, are you saying im wrong about my 0-60 or something else must be done to my car?
Btw my car smokes, alot, and it does slam your head into the headrest, beats the 1.8turbo cupra and beat a focus st 225bhp...

Im fitting the crankcase breather filter tomorrow (not for performance)
Decatting Monday, coilovers next month...

Do cupra bushes fit straight in?

Thanks,

Sam

i personally find it hard to believe that with JUST a remap your car is doing a 7 sec 0-60! with a different turbo/injectors/FMIC I could believe that!
however, i'd quite happy to accept it if you have a vid/slip from a drag strip?

do you know what boost pressure you are running and who did the map? you might be running an unsafe boost for the turbo - dont want to scare ya but the KKK turbos are shite lol! my cousin had an aggressive map put on his car and it lasted less than 10k (at 90K miles though!!)

best way for more power is:

seat sport or custom FMIC
hybrid 150 turbo (or bigger - some people have combined the V6 TDI and a custom manifold)
custom exhaust
high flowing injectors
remap to suit
your'll also need a stage 2 clutch and bigger brakes with that lot! (the standard clutch can cope with around 300lb/ft torque depending how much abuse it has had in its life)

have a look at uzi_cupra on here
or tdi furby on tdisport.com

Digby, a standard PD130 will do 0-60 in 8.2. A mapped one will be around the 6.5-7 sec region and a hybrid will be low 5's, past that you are stuggling for grip to go much quicker.
