After looking at some videos on you tube I found a mk2 Leon cupra R which showed the vehicle speed readout in large numbers on the mfd not just the little readout we get at the bottom.
Wondered if anyone knows how to do this?

iirc; It’s required by law in the UK to display both MPH / KPH at the same time, don’t think it’s the same for Europe. Might be able to change it through VAG COM  but change it back before an MOT.

You could change it on my old MK2 TT, but not on this MFD for some reason. The lay out it slightly different, showing KHP between two small lines at the bottom of the display.

It's KHP though. It's displayed as my TT use to, however If you look closely the outside temp is displayed where the UK version of the KPH is displayed.
Our cars display the outside temp above the two horizontal lines.

Must be programmed different or an option through VAG com, as no option through the MFD.

The european R does not have gloss back seats or the rear diffuser.

Was just curious if I had missed how to do it.
Thanks for your info.
You wouldn't buy an R if it didn't have the darth vader seats and the dual centre exhaust setup would you?

Not at all bud :) i also had a good look for it, and could not find it.

iirc the price is quite high for the R in europe.

You can't set this up on the MFD. Not looked to see how its done in VAGCOM.

Cracked it! :D

This is such an easy re-code to do, literally took me 2 minutes once I found the right menu.

Made a step by step guide if anyone is interested in doing it theirselves:
(Apologies for the crappy phone pics)

Step 1: Connect up to VCDS/VAGCOM in the usual manner, then select Instruments under the Select Control Module menu.

Step 2: Select the Coding sub-menu

Step 3: Select Long Coding Helper

Step 4: Select Byte 0 Bit 4.7 drop-down menu then select 10 Country: Rest of World (RoW)

20111018183349.jpg

Step 5: Exit Long coding helper then hit "Do it"

20111018183412.jpg

That's all you have to do on VCDS/VAGCOM but now you will have to change your MFD Settings, Units menu to the correct UK format from US format (imperial to metric).

Step 6: Un-tick the Alt.speed dis to activate the "Alternative Speed Display"

Step 7: Final stage - Change your units for Consumption to MPG and Temp to ˚C.

Job Done, hope this helps!

It can cost anywhere between £50 second hand off ebay up to £200 odd for the genuine Ross-Tech cable & programme.

You should put a post in the VAGCOM requests section on the forum and see if anyone in your area can sort you out!

If your in the West Midlands I be more than happy to help you out!
