Just checking fleabay out and I see you can get an engine from any where between £1K and £2K and a DSG box for around £1K. ECU seems to come in around £200.00 to £600.00 but not sure if you need a seperate ECU for the DSG or if the standard one runs everything? So roughly by my calculations we are looking at around the £3K mark on parts. Not bad at all if you ask me..................

How much labour would be involved and at what cost to get it fitted and operational? So tempted by this now....................

I like the way you are thinking, assuming there is room to squeeze it all in, I can tell you right now that it will cost alot more than 3k

I really do hope its possible as I would love too see this done

Your going to need custom engine & gearbox mounts, custom pipework, custom exhaust, custom driveshafts... the list goes on

Are the 1.4 & 2.0 box's interchangable?

I don't think so mate as the 1.4 is 7 speed and 2.0 6 speed, one dry and one wet. The list goes on but I was seriously thinking about this today. I am pretty sure it could all be done for sub £10K just need to find out who would be best to speak to about it............ I would honestly invest in a conversion of this type than get rid of the car. Just have not found another car that does it for me in the looks department as this one does. The DS3R was a close competitor in black and orange but at the price tag they can keep it. Which leaves the conversion option.................. not to mention, this car would be an absolute beast with the 2 litre plant and dsg box.

I think your biggest hurdle would be the electronics. I can imagine it would be a nightmare sorting out all the differnt code for variuos ECU's and getting them to talk to each other.

BUT..... someone needs to be first to try it!

Yes I reckon 10k is a more realistic budget.
I did see a k04 2.0tfsi with like 40k inc all sensors pipework ect. sell for £750 on edition38 the other day! Someone got that for a steal.

I dont know much about the newer engines, but I wish you luck & hope its possible.

Hey jc just get the Audi RS1 due next year 4 wheel drive 2 tsi 280 bhp! Only down side nearly 30k

I don't think (mechanically) it'd be a big task, but making all the systems work faultlessly would be the problem

It's one I've thought about, but bringing it up from a lower spec model (because it's cheaper to start with)

Not too many places are doing engine conversions these days, but I would imagine they'd load the pricing quite a lot

I would love this also but the costs will mount massively I think I'm considering racebrakes route going to see how his car goes first .
Just think though get it all in up and running etc get a custom big bore turbo back exhaust + supporting mods done when the car is being built and go straight for stage 2 or 2+ map that would be awesome!

Give Steve Jr a ring at Statllers in Sheffield (I have his number if you need it). I have already discussed this conversion with him for the new Polo GTI I've just bought. It is possible and Steve stocks the 2.0tfsi engines with KO4's along with both DSG and manual boxes. When I discussed it, he said it would also involve the entire 2.0tfsi wiring loom and iirc also a conversion to CANBUS OBDII. Simply put it would involve a donor 2.0tfsi car to make it easier, which Steve could also source. Not cheap though and I reckon £10k would be a good estimate.
£10k would get you a fully built 1.4tsi engine too, but I reckon that the 2.0 KO4 is a less stressed engine and the better option.

You would be able to claim some money back from your old engine and box etc so it would almost be like paying for just the labour.

I think I would put that 10k in a small rebuild of the current engine, keep the weight low, do some track mods and rock the ring.
Cause these cars with the right mods are really fast, the chassis is really good!

The engine is too unreliable for me unfortunately. I have already done the ring with this car hehehehehehehhe.

As above the chassis isnt that good. The mk5 golf platform is a much better chassis and even that isnt as good as the competition from renault sport and ford RS division. Its not a ccrap chassis though by any means

Its dificult to judge, and i guess opinions are based on wwhat you have had previously

That fact that the Renault RS department handles their sporty cars better then the VAG conservative group doesnt mean the chassis is worse. The suspension and all that is ALOT better on the clio, but if you look at the stiffness of the chasis, the Ibiza is really good.

Equip it with a proper Billstein set, some anti roll bar kit, widen the track a little, proper brakes (if you dont have the AP kit) and you'll have a completely different car.

That is what is sad with VAG imo, even their 'R' line is all about comfort and ****.
