I'm haveing my water pump and cambelt changed on thursday next week, and i'm going to hospital on that day so it will be another two weeks before I can drive my car again.
(It's going too feal like a rocket when i finally drive it, compared to the 1.5 td corsa i'm driving now!)

Same problem

Hi did you manage to find out what the problem was?? i have a leon cupra 20vt on a 52 plate and when i first start it up within a minute the temp shoots up to half way then stays there. After about 5 mins if i stick my boot down a bit the temp will rise close to the red light coming on but if i pull over and let it idle the temp drops back to normal???All the while its just ticking over its fine but when it starts to heat up i lose power.

Waterpump gets my vote.

Seems to be coming around again these failures.

I guess the fans are working ok?

Another vote here for the water pump, mine had the same symptoms. Be prepared to pay for a cambelt change at the same time, may as well whilst you're in there.
