I am having a problem with my 57plate cupra.

It is making a whislting noise when on WOT it starts at 3,000 rpm .It is making a bit of a fluttery noise as well, Its not the turbo and it was not doing it before this week so i am a bit confused??

It only does it when you give it full beans.

I have just got my replacement dv from sere and it is not that as it is still making the same noise.:censored::censored:

I have uploaded a video to give you an idea of it ,

Any ideas??:help:

Thanks in advance for your help

Has your car had anything done recently? Sounds silly but what about the oring on the airflow meter connection split? sounds like your hearing intake turbo noise. Just an idea and a quick and easy check.

Yeap split boost pipe somewhere. What was the sudden rev increase at the end of the video about though?

Sit in the car and flat rev it, does it do the noise then? Or is it just on boost. You say its not the turbo, but if the noise isnt there when free reving, then it is more likely to do with your boost. Although it did sound more like a rattle than a boost leak, perhaps a loose heat shield?

It's not there when free revving it. It's just on full throttle

It's not been modified in any way

The peak at the end was just me doing 3 things at once .

How would I diagnose or check a boost leak

Sounds to me like a flakey gasket on the manifold/down pipe.
Heard something very similar on a Subaru a few years back after it got its exhaust system opened up

Cheap and quick fix. If it is that

On the scooby, it also only made the noise when driving. Not when just revving at standstill.

But it does has a distinct close-to-turbo sound as well...
Curious to find out what it is in the end :)
Good luck

It is driving me round the bend i had it scanned for fault codes today and nothing on there.

It may not be causing enough of an issue to cause a fault code YET!!!!!!

Ok so i am going to star looking for any signs of wear on the pipes that are in and around the turbo.

Any hints, tips or tricks to help me ????

Thanks for the input guys

If you disconnect the parts of the exhaust system (if you want to see if it is the gaskets), take the gaskets out and hold them by the edges. If they leaked you will see soot going from the hole too towards the outside.

UPDATE....

Car is in the garage now . They are going to check all the turbo pipes and check for any play in the turbo.

Hopefully just a small split in the pipe.

Am ideas on cost of a replacement turbo if its worst case scenario ???

Another update................

Just got the car back.

They said the pipes are fine and can't see a problem. They reckon that as I have no loss of power and it drives ok I should leave it and just listen out for it getting worse.

What do you guys think

I'm sticking with gaskets. They'd have to have pulled the exhaust system to bits and manually checked all the gaskets for evidence of leakage...I'm not convinced they did that. Are you?
Even though the pipes look very well connected doesn't mean there isn't a gasket that is leaking.

Sorry to stick to my guns on this one. It just seems too similar to what I've personally experienced. Same rev range and all. Same sound.

Hope that's all it is. If it is, you're in no danger of anything getting damaged.
