Such a shame it costs so much! And cams too, 1300 quid is madness, though is there 4 of them in the R's, or just the two? Forgot how expensive bigger cars are to mod. I know what you mean about piece of mind though, I've done the same with mine, just bought everything possible for it that will help it in the long run. Nothing worse than things going wrong, especially with timing gear!

Least you can give it a pasting straight after and not worry :p

Just the 2. They're a V6 but only have 1 cylinder head. Work that out ;) Think there is only 5 degrees or something between the V. So they're a V6, but not at the same time.

I think that's what manufacturers think with expensive cars, "they can afford to buy it, run it and insure it, so they can pay a fortune in repairs." Which really isnt the case at all! lol! I have hardly been able to mod this compared to how often I was beating mods onto the Ibiza! I mean, even for a big service inc 4wd service, VW want like £500-£600 notes! It's unreal. 2 rear springs cost me £170ish I think! It's trying my patience, but it's SUCH a nice car. And you're only young once :)

Bad news!

Drove the Golf up to APS on Saturday. Started work on it yesterday, took the gearbox off and the DMF has seized solid. They think this is why the cam chains have gone as extra stress/tension has been put on the chains/tensioners, because the DMF hasn't been absorbing the shock/vibration like it's meant to. So even more expense. Now it needs a new flywheel, so also putting a new clutch and release bearing in too. Would be silly not to. All genuine VAG. No point going for uprated versions.

Getting it back Wednesday now hopefully!

Ouch, sound expensive! This is one of the reasons why I was put off the R32 :(

It is expensive, but once it's done, there's nothing else CAN go wrong! So......it's worth it though. Bit hard to think that at the moment, but I'm sure as I get back in it tomorrow, I wont think twice about the money :)

That's exactly it mate. It's more for peace of mind than anything. The Deep Blue Pearls are gorgeous colour!

I know what you mean about the grip, I've still not found the limits of it yet because it just seems to stick no matter how quick you go! Went into a roundabout about 20mph once, exited at 50mph and just stuck! They grip very very well in the wet too!

That was mean of you telling him about my goodies. It'd be even worse for him if he knew how much of a difference the full exhaust system makes. And the noise is incredible!!!!

Got all mine done now and engine bay is much quieter. Dont have the "chugging" I had before coming from the cam chain side of the block. Ended up being ridiculously expensive. APS said my chains read -3 and -5 when the work was done. So much better than the -10 and -7 reading a had before! So hopefully all that can go wrong, has gone wrong and I should have trouble free motoring now for years and years. 6 new coilpacks, new chains/tensioners + all oil seals/thermostat housing etc while doing it, new clutch and DMF. What else can go wrong? lol! Nothing I hope! :D

dod you still have your R32??

whats the latest spec of it??

Hello mate, not been on here in ages.

I've not had the R32 for over a year now. Basically I put in to do a technician apprenticeship at my work, which wouldve meant a pay cut for a year or two. So I sold the R32 to buy something cheaper to run, so now I have a. Mk5 Jetta. Which is much cheaper to run! But work ended up messing me around and cancelled the apprenticeship, meaning I didn't need to sell the Golf. I miss it so so much and would have another one in a heart beat. I think mine's been sold 3 times since I've had it :( I don't think she's getting looked after.

The final SPEC was

Milltek non res cat back,
Milltek Sports Cats,
Milltek Manifolds,
Green Cotton air filter,
DSG air snorkel,
20mm rear spacers,
TONNES of layers of waxes etc!

I have all the cam chains replaced aswell, inc New clutch and dmf. spent a small fortune on it.

now the Jetta has non res Milltek cat back and a remap. trying to save for a house so modding has slowed down a lot, but I still really want to mod!
