Legality with Headlight tints?

Looking to tint my head lights black but dont know how much I can tint them as obviously I want the lights to work just want a slight black look to them, any recommendations of percentages?

Confused? the thing i was thinking with tint film is its a constant tint, and if i fudge up i can wip it off, if i screw up spraying them the old bill are guna pull me and i wont be able to drive at night cos i need the car and cant afford not to cos iv messed up.

Ah fair do it was just an idea, I know some people have used the flyeye kits but not sure how effective they are.

Get some headlight covers and spray them.
Actually tinting your lights is stupid, the headlights in these cars are terrible as they are this will make them considerably darker. Plus its the officers judgement of "If their Safe" so I wouldn't risk it personally.

I will look into headlight covers though, sounds like an idea, whatever they are.

i've seen the flyeyes stuff and it looks good to me. Rich has them on his TDI on both front and rear lenses and i like them.

Would it pass a roadside test? If your car fails because of this, it won't just be at night time you can't drive your car - you can't drive it at all.

MOT rules and regulations
1.2: Headlights

A pair of headlights must:

•emit light of substantially the same colour and intensity.
•emit a steady colour of either white or yellow.
•be visible from a reasonable distance.


1.3: Brake lights
•A brake light must emit a steady red light.
•At least 50% of the lamp must be visible from the rear
•Light must be visible from a reasonable distance


1.4: Reflectors

At least 50% of the reflecting surface must be visible from a reasonable distance.



1.5: Indicators
•Every indicator must emit amber light.
•At least 50% of the lamp must be visible.
•Light must be visible from a reasonable distance.


I can see that my fitment fulfills all the above criteria. I don't currently have it on my reflectors though.

But they won't give you the gloss look that you want Ben.

They are removable should the need or desire arise. Hope this helps.

Would look so much better too!

Saying that aint the Leon's all black anyway, i'd leave em as you don't wanna be painting over the chrome light reflectors.
I'd get a new set just to freshen it up if they look a little cloudy.

hi guys,

been looking at gunsmoke lamin-x as i hated flyeyes.... plus they messed with the output too much.

i have been warned that gunsmoke can affect the light output.... but im running HIDs anyway...

think it'll be ok?

i know its sposed to be legal in the UK but what do you guys think??
