Excuse me for my english, I have the same problem after remap light turn on!!!!
I have more information for you:

if you reset the light, it came back if you start the car with a water temperature under 20°

if you put the original map by obd the light turn on again

if you remove ecu processor and remap it the light don't turn on!!!!

the problem is to make a good map because you can't remap by obd

Do you have news about this problem?

thanks

So. It turned out to be a tuner software-utility problem.

The tuning software producer, in this case DimSport, released an update for THEIR tuning software (an update of .dll file which handles comunication with the car).
Writing same data in car's ECU, but with this updated dll, fixed the problem.

U have to ask your tuner what kind of software he uses for modifying the maps.. Check if he has latest updates.

Cheers

Thanks, my tuner don't use dimsport program but Alientech program and they don't have resolve this problem!!!

Do you know which is the problem? is for the map table or for the checksum?

thanks

Well.. I do not have too much detail...
Presumably, for meeting the checksum, they are writing in an "area" that is not taken into account... Or so it happen at previous models (such as TopSport) whereas this was not the case for THIS sw/hw version of the ECU.

Another member for the 17704 club!!

My cars just decided to join the 17704 club, just had code read and done some research seems a new temp sender should really be the first port of call then keep fingers crossed?

My car is a tottaly standard LCR 210 "03

How you guys getting on with your 17704s

When I had this error on my std cupra, i had to buy 2 new temp sensors - the 1st one was faulty too!

I resurrect this thread, because I have this problem too.

My engine is a 1.8t AUQ, and it's remapped (I bought it remmapped, so i don't know who were did the job), and at cold start, the error 17704 appears in vag com.

At 4 months ago, i changed the green sensor, and 1 error was gone. But this 17704 persist, and I don't know what can i do do to solve it.

Note: I haven't any warning light on panel..

Cheers :)

Hi Zed!

From what I've bee through, it seems a software problem. As I later found out, 17704 refered in my case, to a sensor that is NOT present on the AUQ engine. It's a temperature sensor located on the turbo casing, but only Cupra R has it (BAM engine, for example)! So, it is technically impossible for the AUQ engine to throw this error, unless the software guesses wrong.
If this is your case too and you cannot contact the vendor and/or the initial tuner, I would try a complete re-remapping with a reliable workshop.
You can even send the ECU in the UK and have it back in a few days, as I did. (It's true, I did this for taste reasons, after my local tuner already solved the problem).

Hope this helps,
Crize.

So, if you're correct, why the rosstech faq and many people with similar error, refer this code 17704 to a thermostat or G62 sensor?

The only way to erase the error, is remapping the ECU again? I'm very confuse, i've never heard some like this...

As far as I remember (I may be wrong) 17704 reffers to "Malfunction in cooling system". This includes a sensor which does not exist on the AUQ's turbos.
And yes, to get rid of that error which appeared after remapping, my tuner remapped the ECU again for free, after a few months and some updates on his software (utility and maps).
I am guessing that a complete remap from a serious tuner would fix it, too.

The error is this:

17704 - Error in Mapped Cooling System (usually temp Sensor or Thermostat)
P1296 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

In other foruns, the users refers this error to thermostart or temperature sensor (at right of engine).

I don't know, who was remapped my car, i bought it remapped. In a few weeks, i will replace timing belt kit, and i will change thermostat too.

The error appears when i turn on the engine at the morning, or if the car was stopped a few hours. If i have vag- com connect when i make this procedure, i clean the error, but it appears again. After 30-40 seconds, the error disappear. It's strange, no?

To go a specialist to remap my ECU again, i must pay 300 to 400€, that's too much! :-o

Your are right with the quote from Ross-Tech, sorry. I edited my previous message.
It also says "usually" :). My case, discussed on this thread, was not among the usual. I thought you read the whole strugle. :)
So, yes, I would try a new thermostat and maybe a new "green" temp sensor if the problem persists (sometimes replacements tend to get defective too soon).
If these above do not work.. When you bought the car did it have the error? Can you contact the previous owner to check if he/she had the problem before?

Cheers.

It's possible, that green sensor is defective? I payed 38€ at the dealer...

I will buy a new one to confirm, after replace the thermostat (if the error persists).

I contacted the previous owner, but he don't know about that. I saw the error, about 2 weeks before i bought it, when mw vag com cable arrived.

I'm not be worrie, the car works fine, but it's not cool have errors registered in ECU :bleh:

Thanks for your patience :D

Yes, there was the Check Engine light on the dashboard. Sometimes went off for brief periods, but it was mainly on.
No probem Zed, that's why I kept my subscription to this thread! Keep it posted with any updates.

Cheers!

Hey Zed!
Any updates on your problem? Fingers crossed for the better!

Hi Crize,

At this moment i've the problem yet, but in next week i will change timing belt kit, so i'll replace thermostat and coolant temperature sensor.

After this, i will tell you if this works.

Thanks to your consideration

Hi,

I've now got the yellow light on my dashboard. VAGCOM has 1 code: 17704. I deleted the code and approx 1 week later I got the yellow light on the dashboard, again with code 17704. The car runs fine.

My car: Seat Leon 1.8 20 valve Turbo 2002 (it has a Cupra badge, but is defo 1.8 20vT)

The temperature gauge is at the lowest upon starting and stays very low whilst driving (outside temp of 5 degrees as its winter). The temp gauge will rise to sit exactly in the middle if I am idling at lights/junction or if moving in 1st gear in a carpark. Temp gauge never goes above half way (middle)

I'm guessing I should have a mechanice change 2 parts? Thermostat & Green Temperature sensor?

I do not know if the car has been remapped.

What would you advise...

Hi Robbie,

With these symptoms, I bet it's that the thermostat is faulty, leaving open, so the car never warm.

Change the thermostat and the problem will be solved. Many VAG's have these symptoms, and was faulty thermostat.

Regards;)

Hi,

Had both the temp sensor (G62) and thermostat changed months ago, then in the height of summer I got 17704 but I believe this was simply because I used a different type of fuel!

Then today I got 17704 again...
