Good luck with your plans. I have been down the route you are heading with regard to modifications on a MK2 Leon Cupra (and a lot more on top) and you can end up with a proper quick car with the correct parts. One piece of advice I would give however is not to swallow every single mod that is commonly thrown up as some of them are a complete waste of money in my opinon.

I wouldn't pay that much for a Cupra 'R'!

Had stage 1 Revo on my Cupra for a while now (Been really happy with it), was gonna sell it on but circumstances have changed and now looking to up the horses. Please do let on as to your experience of getting a proper quick car, with the correct parts and what mods are a waste of money?!

Was thinking of full tbe - Milly or blueflame?
Do i need a CAI - ITG or Evoms
HPFP - ?

25k for a cupra r that makes it cheep. Seat used web site one dealer wants 24k for a 2010 fr. If i had the money i would buy a cupra r over the standard cupra. However i would be happy with a cupra, i have tryed to make my fr look like a cupra but its still an fr at the end of the day.http://www.seat.co.uk/generator/su/com/UsedCars/site/Search/main.html HAVE A LOOK AT SEAT USED PRICES

Makes the R cheap? I would never pay that money for it. As for used car prices, most dealers are pushing up the prices of popular/performance models. (should have seen what it was like a few months ago trying to get a nearly new TTS, I could have made a profit if I had sold mine straight after collection!)

However with good discounts available on factory orders through the multitude of well established brokers out there, I fail to understand why anyone would pay book price or go nearly new.

I can't agree...

I drive Cupra MY2010, I ordered it march 2009, got the first one in Poland.
When I ordered it there were no news all over the word about R, mayby some rumors ...

My opinion ?
Cupra R should be the only model in the ranche.

I tested last week Cupra R - my opinion:

1.) better suspension
2.) faster gear change
3.) 19" better driving
4.) sound!
5.) better driving from 4,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm

In Poland the the price diffrence Cupra R/Cupra is about 1000 euro ....

1.) better suspension - Is it? Or is it just cas its new?
2.) faster gear change - Again really? I don't see why it would be any different.
3.) 19" better driving - 19" is big maybe a bit too big!
4.) sound! - I can't imagine its much different to a cupra cas at the end of the day its the same block!
5.) better driving from 4,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm - Yes agree its got more power :)

It would be worth £1000 more, but not £5000 more. Thing is the spec in Poland is most likely different to the UK one - ie no leather seats, no diffuser, no twin exhausts, no shiny seat backs (not that this costs another £4k but you get the idea).

The main problem with the Cupra R at 25k (or more with options) is the Audi S3. Yes the latter car is getting on a bit now (although it could be argued that underneath it's not really any different) and yes it is more expensive again (circa 2k), however, it also has a much better interior(relative to its price), the addition of 4WD (for better or worse) and significantly better residuals (I can't believe how expensive S3's still are). It will also be quicker than the R (especially if you could source a S-tronic model for a decent price) although there isn't a massive amount in it.

Because of this cost point I will be looking at a Ex Demo 10 plate Cupra tommorow (in custom blue which looks identical to the sprint blue of the S3) which is priced at 17k rather than a significantly older S3.

As an additional point the R that is in their showroom is nigh on 26k and tbh I am not seeing enough of a difference to justify nearly 9k difference in price.

Thing is the S3 will hold its value alot better than a LCR aswell. LCR residuals will drop like a stone n its first few years

thing is. the S3 that your looking at is presumably a 3 door? cant see you getting a sportback for 17k? the lcr is significantly cheaper than a similar speced S3 sportback. although some would argue you get what you pay for, i would say the S3 although premium is a little bland.

I dont think the residuals will be that bad on the new LCR, bear in mind that they are only making circa 500 a year........and how long do we have left of the mk2 leon?

i just sold a 54 plate mk1 lcr for 7k....which was 17k 6 years ago. i wouls say the new R would be rarer again.

i may be a little biase as i ordered my candy white LCR yesterday.....but my company pay for it......so im not so bothered about the cost!!

I was horrified yesterday when I looked in the magic green book to see what my K1 had lost this month.

My wife's 5 year old A3 2.0T S-Line quattro had lost £125.

If you have to buy a car based on residuals then out of the two the S3 would be the obvious choice.

I almost part-xd my K1 for a 2007 S3 2 weeks ago with 28k on the clock. In the end I decided that looks wise the K1 just has it over the S3 and with only 7k miles on my K1 it was not worth the change.

S3s are lovely though. Just don't know why they never got flared arches like the original. Make it a bit more individual and harder to copy.

Not sure about that one dude. I know someone who bought a 2 year old fully specced minted S3 last year for £18k - a drop of £12k in 2 years. And you also need to consider that the S3 is on its last legs now, so any new ones now will kick the bucket value wise in the next year or so.

Has anyone noticed the underside of the Cupra R front valance / chin spoiler ?

On most of the ones I have seen the finish is very poor and the underside isn't even straight, - really poor quality. The plastic is 'wavy' like a DIY job !

IMO the interior isn't up to much either, which is why I decided to take the best bits of the new 'R' and update my MY08 Cupra...

All I need now is the exhaust / diffuser rear end...

@ Jedi - I cannot dispute the FL LCR wheels are quite nice, although they would be better in a colour other than silver, but they look wrong on a pre face lift car in my opinion.

Also, the finish on the FL Cupra/Cupra R is no worse than the pre facelift - in fact I would say the finish on the FL if anything is better, and I can vouch for the interior being superior on the FL although the quality of the fabric and structure of the seats I am less sure of.
