I've always used the 97 RON stuff in my Astra VXR... when i get the FR TDI, will i be best off getting the higher rated diesel or is the normal stuff ok ?!

Normal diesel will be fine. It's only with high performance petrol cars where the rating of the fuel makes a difference. I remember watching something on fifth gear in regards to the different fuels. The 97 RON or above stuff did actually make a difference, but found no significant difference with the so called performance diesel.

BTW, im using V-power for my mk2 Cupra..

Would you say that V-Power gives better mpg's than standard 95 OCT fuel??
I'm feeling the difference jumping from a BMW 330CD to a Cupra Revo Stage 2+... But loving the power in the Cupra.

Just to see all your guys thoughts as I've noticed all of you are running on v or superunleded I'm running on normal cheapo fuel mainly as it's my wifes car and she genrally poodles around in her mk2 cupra bit we've got a very annoying judder at stand still could this be because of fuel??

here in Serbia we only have ron95 unleaded (but with tons of sulfur in it ) and i have light judder also on stand still... but when I travel abroad I ALWAYS get v-power racing (100oct) and judder dissapears, car go at least 30% better (subjective observation) and mileage is better at around 20%...
if I'd have shell here, i'd go only for v-power...

But seriously, anything else is risky in my view.

Why ?

Only yesterday someone posted that they were having issues with supermarket fuel in a Leon FR in my own area...Supermarkets use various cheap unbranded lower grade fuels, and focus only on profit...they don't worry much about the purity of the fuel, condition of the tanks, tankers, or anything else.

After all, If you owned a shiny new Ferrari F458, you wouldn't put Asda unleaded in it would you ?

I use Shell Optimax, the difference in performance with other super is for me noticable. But I haven't tried Total's super yet.

vpower for me too.

My garage run out of v power the other days and had to put normal unleaded in it, just doesnt perform the same.

Havind said that the cupra will run fine on normal unleaded it won't do your car any harm but as everyone has already mentioned if you use the higher grade fuel such as V Power you will notice a difference.

Ive defered my revo install till Wednesday so I can clear all the normal unleaded out and get the v power pumping through its veins then away we go.

Looking ofrward to Wednesday and praying for a bit of dry weather too!

Well I couldn't get to my local shell to try 'v' but used sainsburys superunleded which I def feel performances improvments but still got very annoying judder so ful tank of 'v' next see if this improves!!

V-Power looks like the weapon of choice for a Cupra then. Sahme I don't have a Shell station anywhere near home or work, or in a 15 mile radius
The only ones in town are Total, anyone know what their super is like?

Nearest Tesco with fuel 12 miles Sainsbury's is the nearest other one about 7 miles.
We had loads of others in town but so many have closed

An article in v-zine (free with v-power vouchers) noted v-power diesel cleaned the injectors better than regular diesel. They would be biased but can see the logic.

Tried them all, found texaco and bp underpowered, shell was good but too far to go and fill up, but tesco 99 is great. I think the extra you have to pay to fill up with super you get backk in mpg.

That V-Zine also had an eco test: London to Monaco on one tank of diesel with three modern 1.6 cars. The Passat Bluemotion 'won' by a fair margin by the way, making 84.1mpg! (And not making the wait for my Ecomotive 1.6cr SE any easier...)

Slightly more on topic, from memory, they didn't specify if they brimmed the tanks with V-Power Diesel or their standard fuel, which I thought was odd if they thought the V-Power would give more mpg as well as the claimed engine cleaning abilities. One might conclude that V-Power diesel has more detergents but little performance benefit?

And I agree that V-Power petrol is worth the extra cost in extra mpg. If not making up the premium over standard completely, the 'value' difference is negligible and you get the smoother idling and better performance too.
