MY03 Leon Cupra TDI vs MY04 Cupra FR TDI differences

Hi chaps,

As you can see from my username, I drive a Mk4 Golf V6 4Motion currently. No problems with the car, it's fab, but being a V6, it *eats* unleaded fuel like it's going out of fashion.
:thumbd:

Plus, I'm moving house and will be having a longer commute to work (about a 70 mile roundtrip daily) so I'm looking at a diesel instead and the Leon Cupra TDI has caught my eye!

I note that Seat changed the branding of the car to the 'FR' spec last year, and I wondered what the differences are between the models? It seems like the pre-FR cars have a 6cd multichanger and cruise control that the FR seems to lack. Also, what kind of exhaust tip do both have - I've seen the Leon Cupra R and the Ibiza TDI Cupra have a huge oval exhaust that I personally hate the look of.

Also, does the Leon have a 'Miles remaining' indicator on its onboard computer? The Golf sadly lacks this.

Thanks for any help guys!

The difference between the FR and Cupra apart from the name is different alloys, silver wing mirrors on the FR and lack of multichanger in the FR. I believe cruise control is an option on both cars and doesn't come as standard. As for the exhaust its a twin tail pipe with two small round tips. The onboard computer does have a Miles remaining indicator, well it does on my petrol cupra, so I assume the TDI is the same. Hope this helps.

I'm sure this must have been covered before but the main cosmetic differences between the two cars are the alloys and wing mirror covers (now a chrome type). I think (not looked that much TBH) the new one has a single CD in lieu of the mulichanger but the option is still there. The trip does have a miles to go indicator too but as ever I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

For exhausts the FR has a twin tailpipe design rather than the big oval one you'd find on the R. Hope this covers some basic bits but I'm sure others will give some more detail and correct anything I've put.

Hey, thanks for the uber-quick response!

Are the 'Sports seats' in either model Recaro seats, or just Seat's own 'sport' seats? What about the leather seat option?

Can anyone point me in the direction of some nice interior pics?

So many questions! ;)

Thanks!

Personally I'd go for the leather now with the electric seat too and I'll admit the TDi is a wise choice - still thinking of one myself due to my R's running costs. The standard seats are pretty good IMO and the extra for the Recaro's does not really seem worth the money.

I'm sure if you did a search you'd find some piccies too.

The seats are just sport seats not recaro as standard. There is a leather option, i believe in the brouche the leather seats are shown in the cupra. There maybe some pics on this site, im sure it has been discussed before.

I saw a Cupra TDI in the Stoke dealer yesterday, which had Recaros in. Dunno if they're on the normal options list, but they looked really good - IMO the standard seats look a bit boring; I've got leather, but I'd happily have the fabric Recaros instead.

It was the very last few Leon FR's that sold as FR+ which included the Cupra-R bodykit and 17" version of the Cupra-R wheels.

I've read somewhere that the front Recaros drop almost to the floor at the back meaning little foot room in the back. Also, the rear bench becomes 2 seats rather than 3. Can anyone confirm? I have to fill my LCR with a family as well as V Power.

there are pics on here of interiors and yes the LCR recaros are 4 seats rather than 5 seaters
