Sound System Query re track listing for CDs

Does anyone know how to get track listing from brand new CDs? Delighted with our Ibiza CR TDI Sport but, having rifled through the manual to no avail, I'm frustrated at seeing Track 1 etc on the display. Not sure if there is a fault with stereo. Many thanks!

You will need to first burn the CD to mp3 using something like Windows Media Player.

WMP will then find the track listing over the net (ID Tag) and burn to CD.

Not only will you get MANY more songs on a single CD in mp3 format (without noticable loss of quality), but you will also now have all ID Tag information displayed on the HU !!

Hello again and thanks for your response. I had a thought that if I download my CDs to iTunes and then burn to blank CD, the track listing should be there. Then I remember we are in the 21st century and I'm sure there must be a better way. Also I believe it's illegal to copy CDs so I could end up in prison!

With reference to the previous reply, the INFO button is not available with the CDs I was trying to play, yet they are recent releases and I'm sure the track listings are on them.

Any other ideas?

its not illegal to put albums you have BOUGHT from i tunes on to a CD, its illegal to download music not copy music you have actually bought, and anyway you wont get in trouble for having a few copied cds in ya car =]

It's VERY rare to get a standard album on CD (bought from a shop) which has the track text/tag information burnt onto it, so you definitely won't be able to see track listing on the Head Unit unless you somehow burn it again with the ID3 Tags!

Why would you want to burn a CD back to a CD with the information on ??, why don't you simply do mp3s ???. You cannot tell the difference between mp3's burnt at 160kbps and pressed CD's in the car ! - you might be able to tell on your Bose system at home, but you cannot tell in a car environment at all!. Plus you get 11 or 12 albums on 1 CD WITH THE ID TEXT !

128kbps is considered "Near CD Quality", and for the purpose of the car, it is. 160kbps is much better, and 192kbps is considered CD quality. The larger bit rate you use the better it will sound, but the less mp3's you're gonna get on your CD. In a car i would recommend at least 160kbps. That's what i burn most of mine at to get the balance right between in-car quality and quantity on the CD.

If you definitely want to stick with Audio CDs then it is NOT illegal to burn them AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE ORIGINAL AND DON'T SELL IT.

I have tens of thousands of mp3s, if you were illegally selling pirated DVD's then fair doos, that's illegal, but to have a few mp3's for your own listening pleasure in the car then you're not gonna do porridge !. Millions do it.

Yeah i agree. If yours are already burnt to 320kbps then i wouldn't even bother converting them down to 160 just to get more on. I mean okay you might only get 6 albums on instead of 12, but 6 albums is a heck of a lot really especially when all you have to do is write more CDs. And how much are blank CD's these days, like 10p (if that!).

it's really easy, take off the face plate (carefully!), and take the 4 torx screws out.

Hi there, nope i didn't fit a sub, i fitted the JVC AVX33 head unit. Easy enough to fit but i needed an ISO loom adaptor (£13) as the Ibiza mk5 ISO block (quad lock) is non-standard.

Andy, I already have a JVC AVX33 headunit, however i was wondering what facia kit conversion you used? Looking online the closest colour match looks like Dublin grey???? Where did you get the ISO loom adaptor from?

Hi there Steve, do NOT get the Dublin Grey !! - big mistake, i did it and it's a really light grey and does not match the interior (at least in my mk5 sport). I then bought the BLACK AZABACHE and it is a very close match. This was the one i bought:

To be honest andy i never really used the video function unless it was on a DVD.

I mainly use it with a 40 gb external usb hard drive with all my music....

One thing which you may find hand is soldering the handbrake cable into the black earth cable... this will let you watch videos all the time lol.

Once i set it up in my car again i will have a look at the mp3/video usb feature... see if i can get it working.

Just figured it out!, you have to set the file type from the menu to "Video", "photo", or "Audio", that then does it !.

As for the brake cable, my unit was second hand and already had this sorted, it plays while the car is moving so i presume the last owners had soldered the wire to earth already.

Hi there Nigel, it's really easy when you've done it once. There is a surround over the radio (at the edges of the radio), you cannot miss it.

Gently prise something under it (in the middle of the bottom bit, or top bit), preferably something which isn't going to mark the dash (i used a plastic knife).

It should pop off if you manage to get your finger under it and work it off right the way round.

You will then see 4 Torx Screws at each corner. Take them out.

The HU will be slack enough to pull out then.

Don't pull it out too far as the quadlock hasn't got all that much leeway.

Pull the bar lock handle up on the quad lock and you've done it !
