Alcantara Interior

Hi all, been lurking about these parts for a couple of months now, I'm the proud owner of a 10 plate Leon FR TDI 170 in Candy white, all the toys media pack, convenience pack, 18 inch Ibera alloys and also the Silver and black Alcantara interior. The interior really finishes the car off with it being white it really looks smart.

Anyway I had the car was back in the garage today as I'm worried about protecting the seats so I asked them to put the diamond brite on the car which I probably should have done when I bought the car (I wasn't offered it at the time so didnt think to ask), anyway when I picked it up they had put the protector on the wheels, paint, carpets and dashboard but they said that Seat had advised not to put it on the alcantara. They had phoned the local BMW garage and they had also said they dont use it on their alcantara seats.

Does anyone know of any cleaning products or protection I can use as I dont want to ruin the seats. Is it hard to clean?

Also had the ipod cradle installed today, works great with the media system if anyones thinking of getting one.

Bit long winded but thanks in advance for any help, enjoyed reading the forum guys.

Mike.

The only thing you can use on Alcantara Seats is the stuff you would use to protect shoes with. But do test a bit on the corner first as the grey Alcantara is quite light and don't want a colour mismatch. The cloth edges can have the fabric protector added.

Actually, I never found anything that people would use on alcantara. Don't forget, it's not suede, so shoe protector is not the best idea. It's a man made material that is designed to be fairly hard wearing with the look of suede.

The closest I got for cleaning it was warm water and a sponge, nothing more. However, that is usually all you need, as it is remarkably easy to clean. I've got cream half leather, half alcantara in my nine year old Toledo, and I expected it to be a nightmare to clean. But apart from the bobbling it came up really good with a bit of elbow grease. The bobbling I sorted with a gentle run over with a Gilette razor, but I don't expect you need to do that just yet!!

I'd recommend you leave it be, you can't really improve on what is a pretty good fabric.

I actually treated my M Sport BMW with the stuff after a recomendation and it did work a treat to be honest and did help resist dirt better. Shoe stuff can be used on man made finishes as well such as Alancantara. Bet is best to test for colour fastness first!!

thanks for the replies, I was thinking of getting the seats protected as I've got a 2 month old baby and when he gets a bit bigger I suppose he'll be putting his own coating over them! they really finish the car off the seats so I'm glad I went for the interior, just didnt think it through regarding stains etc.

Hi Faz I'll try and put some pictures up today or tomorrow if its easy enough to post pictures on here?

I've been using the cradle quite a lot and I'm really glad I got it, with the media system you can use the steering wheel or the touch screen and really user friendly, I paid £99 at my dealer, dont know if its good or bad but I'm glad I did.
