ok, ive searched soooo much but i still need help!

i need new discs and pads all round on my 8v 1999 mk2,

first of all, what size are my discs??? seems to be a lot of different sizes being thrown around, secondly, where should i get them from online? it would be nice to get some grooved ones but i don't really want to spend more than £200 all round (inc pads), is this viable?

any help would be much appreciated! :)

There's no F in Quality..
The 2.0 8v is 256mm brakes as standard ;)

www.brakes4u.co.uk is a good place to get prices from, although Badger5 on here was offering a 'price match' typre thing with thier prices, not sure if he's still doing that though, but worth asking ;)

8v discs: Std £48, D&G £130
8v pads: Std £20, Green-stuff £44

1.4 239mm discs: Std £43, D&G £130

Cheers mate.

Would discs for a Mk3 1.4 fit. Theres some drilled/grooved on ebay but they are listed for a mk3 1.4?

Also would it be worth getting the discs zinc-plated before fitting them onto the car?

i just changed all discs/pads on my 16v, standard OEM is fine for the rear, i put some brembo max grooved discs on the front (~£100 ebay, should be a bit cheaper for 256mm). I would steer clear of green stuff pads, all iv heard is bad things about them

I have saw the zinc plating thing done before, a few times on drilled and grooved discs to stop rust etc forming in the bits that the pads dont actually touch.

Only asking as I can get it done at work FOC.

as the plating process will cover all the disc, you'll then need to machine the braking area back to original metal, a lot of hassle for what gain?

I used high-temp silver paint on the centre bit of the discs to stop them going rusty, but I'd stay clear of the braking surface itself with any kind of plating/paint etc

I wasnt sure hence why I asked the question before I did it.

I didnt want to go ahead and do it and throw 40,50,60 quid down the drain.

Have you used them?

I had green stuff all round on my old GTI and they were considerably better than OE pads. Didn't squeak, worked well from cold and didn't fade even after half hour on the stages. I have friends who have managed to fade them, but in more powerful, much heavier saloon cars only.

I'd use them again, infact....i have a set for this GTI

No I haven't used them, but I have just recently done a lot of research as i've just changed all discs/pads (plus 3 new calipers ) and i read a lot of negative comments on green stuff, sorry if i'm wrong!
