Cupra oil/coolant top-up?

EDIT: Definitive answer is 5w-30 fully synthetic

My cupra needs some oil, I have searched on what oil I require but there is no real answer, especially for low mileage cupras.

So I have decided to make this thread to get an answer once and for all for both low and higher mileage cupras so people wont have to ask in the future.

From what I gather the oil best suited for the cupra is fully synthetic 5w-30. However I have read on here that cupras with under 10,000 miles should not be using fully synthetic oils as the engine is still bedding in.

So if your car has over 10,000 miles and needs oil get a full synthetic 5w-30 oil, such as castrol edge which is specially formulated for VAG FSi engines.

However heres another snag, the cupra comes from the factory with semi synthetic oil, and I have also read on here that you should not mix semi synthetic oil with fully synthetic oil. Is this a myth or is it true? I ask this as all the top up bottles of fully synthetic 5w-30 state that it was designed with VAG specifically in mind and it meets VW's 504 00/507 00 standard as listed in our handbooks

Now for cupras under 10,000 miles, you should get a semi synthethic 5w-30 if the above is indeed true, however going into my local halfords I only found semi sytnthetic 5w-30 designed for ford vehicles in mind.

So can anyone give a definitve answer on just what oils exactly is ok for the cupra, low and high mileage, and whether mixing is bad?

And this also brings me onto coolant, my car needs some and going into halfords there were loads of different types. Does anyone know which exactly is ok for VAG vehicles as I have read off a bottle that it is bad to mix different types of coolant.

As you can see im very confused, I only want the best for my cupra like everyone else so Im hoping we can put our heads together and get some answers and links to products.

:)

I got the below oil put in my car at the first service by a well respected Seat garage. Car had done about 8k and the mechanic told me its whats recommended and is good oil. I topped it up recently with 1/2 a litre of Edge 5w30.

The quantum gold/silver appears to be what all the VAG garages use, thanks for the link.

I have some castrol edge 5w30 sitting infront of me now, still pondering whether to stick that in my engine or not. Might have to make a trip to a SEAT or audi garage tomorrow!

Went SEAT garage today and got some coolant. Its called G12 Plus plus.

Oil top up for the car is meant to be 15w 40 (or was it 5w 40?) semi or part synthethetic. Fully synthetic 5w-30 is a no no according to them.

My local seat told me to use Mobil 1 5w/30. I think the lower weight oils are used for turbocharged engines. 10 weight like you say is for bedding the engine in.

I topped mine up with the Mobil 1 5w/30 not being sure whether Quantum was in the car or not.

well going by the manual its ok to mix oils for top up purposes anyway.

Any oil is better than no oil. When the oil level starts to get low the efficiency of the engine decreases.

If I remember rightly I've read somewhere that Quantum is a VAG owned company! Dealers told me to use Quantum Platinum 5w 40 fully synthetic, I always thought the main benefit of fully synthetic was extended drain/change intervals.
