the shark performance STS handset i had was so easy it was unbelievable. no hassle with the usual "unable to connect to superchips server" really easy to follow instructions,
http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/sts.asp

heres the user manual illustrates how easy it is. http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/_common/download.asp?item_id=69

very useful information thanks, have been considering remap for some time now but revo overpriced here in Ireland and bluefin or shark seem much handier being able to download and can pay online too. everything else standard on mine so would you suggest panel filter at the same time as remap as a minimal mod??

a panel filter will realistically give you 1-3bhp, for around £30-35 so its really up to you. it might be better to wait until you see if you want to tune it further, then just go all out and get a cai, with the new itg and bdm cai's out, and the forge twintake you may well be able to pick up a bargin second hand diblas or something similar in the accessories section.where abouts in ireland ya from?

@stevesulsh

I agree REVO is overpriced but then again it is a good product, from what i have felt for my self having driven both and seeing dynom plots of them(stage 2 TFSI) id say shark perfomance was very comparable performance wise to REVO but cheaper and easier to get done.(if you get it with the STS handset-you can either go to nottingham where ben will map your car there and then, or do t from your own home with an STS via the internet)

the panel filtr will allow your engine to rev easier but dont expect much gains. for 35 quid its a cheap stop gap, you will get 15-20 quid if you flog it once youare ready to swap to an induction kit.

here are what id reccomend as the top air intakes available for the TFSI

ITG(see my thread on it)http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/new-intake-tfsi-vrs-itg-lots-pics/160314/

BSH intake(VW Golf Mk5 GTI BSH Tru-Seal Air Intake Induction Kit - 199.00 : dUBtEK, VW Performance Partshttp://www.bshspeedshop.com/store/product.php?productid=16958)

Full%20Intake%201TN.jpg

HKS intake (http://dubtek.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=237)

my order of preference if i was looking into these would be

ITG

Forge Twintake(when they eventually make it to fit the octavia engine bay)

evoms

VF engineering

HKS(apparently this is uber loud)

personally I think if you are interested in only going to stage 1 then bluefin Is great, but if there is a possibility of going further id look elsewhere to a vag specific tuner.

So you wouldn't recommend the Shark for stage 1 over the Bluefin? I am looking to get something done to Stage 1. Was going to get Bluefin for ease of use but considering Shark now.
What you reckon for going no more than stage 1?

id 100% rccomend him over bluefin without hesitation.

i had bluefin myself and i have driven revo stage 1 TFSI and the REVOs were in a different league.

I know a guy who has in the past on his various differnt TFSI cars used Code RED tuning, REVO and shark performance. He rates the shark perfomance over the lot of them so much so that he also had his PD 170 passat mapped by them as well as his new A4 TFSI.

im yet to see a bad review from him either. plus his customer car is very good. Hes a regular poster on briskoda, tyresmoke, and audi-sport so have a poke around them for more info if you want to search, not to sure what other forums he hangs about to be honest.

He is also running a january deal at the moment on briskoda 20% off all stage 1 remaps until the end of jan. thast a tidy £80 quid saving i think.

one particular tuner told me straight up that superchips used to be top of the game, that they were really on the ball with the bluefin when it was first released, and their maps were up there with the best of them, but that lately its no longer the case. of course this could simply be a case of 'buy from us because we're better than they are' but his arguement was that: now days everyones brining out hand held switches, and with this being the case, most people can go to a reasonably local tuner and have a custom map loaded to a switch, rather than me for example, buying a bluefin while living in northern ireland. i cant exactly nip across to superchips hq for a custom map, and a generic stage 2 map will always struggle when comapred to a custom one, so yeah its all down to whats local to you that you can trust- i had no local option, and superchips was the cheapest of two i would trust to work- superchips and revo.
i would bet that if you got a custom map at superchips hq on their rr, optimised for your car with whatever mods it may or may not have, and then loaded that to your own bluefin, your car would hold its own against the likes of vrsy's-providing yous have the same mods etc.
but, if your not local to superchips, then your stuck with a generic map, not ideal for your car, but an average map to suit the average tfsi, and so you probably wouldnt compare to vrsy.
Tuners like superchips and revo etc all have massive experience which goes a long way, and they all produce great products, but the maps will differ according to the experience of the tuner.
reviews from people like vrsy are always helpful because theyve got experience of the different products out there-superchips revo and now shark.
if your only thinking about stage 1 then one is most likely as good as the other, what you really want is a reputable company which offers good value for money comapred to the opposition, while offering similar power levels. its only if you are thinking of going stage 2 or higher in the future that you might think about the option of a custom map-in which case youd be better off picking a good company within a reasonable driving distance

personally i can find no fault with superchips or the bluefin, so far theyve been as helpful as anyone could be, and the car is faster than before-exactly what im after.stage 1 was fantastic, and stage 2 brings a noticable increase in power. maybe if i drove another stage 2 car with the same mods id feel differently. after a bit more hard driving today, i can see what your talking about vrsy, the power delivery isnt as smooth as stage 1, it is 'lumpy'. but unlike you i have nothing to compare this to, ive only driven remapped diesels before and so have no comparison at all. ill definately go down the custom software route once im done upgrading the hardware.

beeko85, i dont think you have got the gist of my map. By saying i had it custom i meant had the generic map tweaked

it is his generic Stage 3 K03 TFSI(same as stage 2+) map that was loaded onto the car, the same one that anyone would get on the handset via post or loaded in person by him if you purchased one. that map at which point wiped the floor with the bluefin hands down.

he then asked if i was happy, would i like it tweaked and exactly how i would like ii and then did what i wanted with it, same sort of process as the REVO and the SPS switch. same base map, but you adjust it to indivdual cars and mods.

I ike you thought bluefin was fine, it was when my friends revo stage 2 destroyed me, that i realised it. until then id tought it was ace as it was alot better than standard, just not as good as it could be.

ultimately if you are happy thats all that matters. I have more mods planned such as SFS discharge and charge pipes and watermethanol injection planned as well as a k04 conversion. So i wanted a tune that would maximise that otherwise it wouldnt be worth me doing it all. I was 99% set for REVO though before i changed though. I am a fan of REVO as well, Have driven K04 APRs as well and they were excellent as well.

saying that though bluefin only seem to have these issues with the k03 mostly, some of the k04 guys have made some excellent outputs, which shows they can do it, but imo theyhavent cracked it on the k03 yet

I agree mate, 100%, im not slating bluefin, it was great for me at the time, based over in germany, i didnt have access to anything else really, o it was a great stopgap, add to that i got the stage 2 and 2+ software free of charge as well, and it was a bargain.

now im back in UK and on the mod hunt, i needed more from it, hence the change.

I wish id have seen all myfindings before i bought it, but therewere not many stage 2 cars out there so i just went for it.

Sorry vRSy, I am not clear. Did you get a stage 1 Shark map or go straight to stage 2? I want to know if the stage 1 Shark map is preferable to the stage 1 Bluefin for the TFSi.

not personnaly had shark performance stage 1, but have had bluefin stage 1, and driven revo stage 1 and REVO was in another league in omparison, and from the reviews ive read and people ive spoke to who have had REVO stage 1 before, rate the shark performance as a close competitor to the performance of the REVO

ie my bluefin stage 1 made good HP and ok torque. 241Hp, 249Ibft. the revos make about the smae horse power, but another 30-45Ibft more torque which is what you want TBH.

oh,ok, i thought you just kind of went in and told them exactly what you wanted and then they went ahead and did it. that kind of worried me cause id have no idea of what to do, so thought stage 3 or custom map might not have worked for me, but that sounds ok. yeah a few people on here have said about having revo maps tweaked a bit to suit their cars better-im still not sure id know what to ask for to make it better, i guess looking at the rr graphs would give a fair idea of how it should be though? at the end of the day im hoping the tuner im planning on going to will know enough to do it right. i wouldnt trust myself to mess with revo settings or the shark ones either if its the same kind of system.
no doubt revo is the better system, and maybe i should have went with that at the time, but it was a good bit more expensive, as everyone said though, at the end of the day you get what you pay for. if id have had your review about shark at the time i may well have went that way instead

also the tuner in question does the whole laptop on the road thing for his stage 3/custom maps (which im guessing is what your talking about with tweaking) so im guessing it'll be mapped to suit the car and its particular mods ok. really looking forward to getting the itg now

no idea how he does it TBH, you just tell him how you wold like it to drive, its the same with alot of tuners you tell them how you would like it too drive and they do what ever it is they do. I wanted alot of low down torque but i didnt want an uncontrollable surge of it if you know what i mean as it would only get span away with wheel spin, o it still needed to be smooth in its delivery. we basicaly made little adjustments, and ran the car again until i was happy with it, which didnt take to long TBH.

your right mine was mapped to suit my car and mods specifically, which is ideal as every car will differ ever so lightly, I shall be heading back up to him this year to get water meth sorted
the map isnt running at full wack yet either as i dont have the intercooler so we dropped the boost is lower than I could have it to keep the inlet temps in a safe area.

yeah ill probably go for the s3 intercooler before i get the map done, going to get a quick shift kit too after reading this months redline test. a guy with an aniversary gti was there at the same time as me on mon who was running water meth, said it was more benificial than an intercooler as you only use it when you need to and its cheap- i dont drive hard for long period really, dont use it for track use or anything, so said maybe water meth was a better option for me. they used to have that on sti's and evos a while back-could it really make that much of a difference?for the sake of another fe hunrded £ ill probably end up with the s3 option just to be on the safe side
