seems to be a few 1.6's playing up all of a sudden, is it just petrol one's or diesel too ?

thats why i bought a mk 4 ibiza 1.9 tdi sport.

A quick update...

I have spoken to my dealer today. The engine starting fault has not shown up since the car has been there, but no end of error codes are showing up. The dealer may have to order in some sort of diagnostics 'patch' box next week so that they can watch every sensor and see where the faults are. Apparently Seat technical have not got a clue what the problem is.

I wonder how long I am going to be without my car for?

I already have that DSG box, so am used to that. I barely get 38mpg over here so I suspect the 1.4 may not be any less efficient eh?

On my test run over a 3 mile motorway stretch it was ranging from 45-50mpg. So its pretty good on fuel when you take it easy.

Is yours not the 6 speed DSG?

My 1.6 is petrol The Sport is a 1.6 petrol. Yes the gearbox is very good. I am hating driving the manual loan car I have at the moment hehe

I have a suspicion that there are a fair few cars with problems at the moment.

They'll never admit there is a common issue here as they're sh1t scared they'll ave to take some accountability.

There seem to be a fair few probs of late on VAG engines:

1) This 1.6 related issue
2) misfires, and coking valves on 2.0TFSi
3) DPF issues on some of the diesels

Do they do extended testing anymore, or are we paying the privilege to do it ourselves?! Given the rate everything changes I'm not surprised it's coming to this.

Best of luck getting it sorted, stay calm with them, and keep your aces up your sleeve in case it all goes belly up (calling influential car mags / trading standards / watchdog etc...)

on a bench? or in real world scenarios (e.g. the harsh realities of everyday life in the real world after being bolted together by Pedro de la Scroter?)

A friend of mine does some internal work on VAG engines, and says the bench test engines are often of significantly different tolerances / build quality standards to some of the mass produced stuff that turns up in customer cars.

I think that's true of a lot of cars TBH.

Must be just your car's with problems as we not had any problems with 1.6 Tdi's or 1.6 petrols, or to be honest any new ibiza!

I suppose it is possible that only post are made when things go wrong. Sur there could have been 1000 1.6tdi's sold since they came to Briton and these 5 or so are the only ones!!
