Has anyone removed the 'blank switch'? If so how is it done?
I'd like to drill a hole in it to fit a dummy alarm led I have, then run the wires back behind the dash

AFAIK the full leather interior has heating elemenents in the seats by standard.
Wether you have the option, or not...

Maybe someone can confirm this ?

You'd then just need the switch. And maybe the cable-loom, unless it is already
in the car.

I like the idea of the timed heater switch as I always forget to turn it off. My last car had it and was useful. However, can anyone confirm the above post? I have Full Leather in a 99 V5, and would love heated seats, but wouldn't want to go down the route adding in the elements etc. If it was just a switch and maybe the loom, i'd be very interested.

sorry, been a bit slack and hoped it would be an easy job, looks like it may well be....
found a good guide in the toledo section on how to remove the centre console stuff to get the switch out.
need to actually do it now, and may look at doing during the week at work in lunch break.

ok, so managed to squeeze this in today - doddle to do
1. remove stereo
2. T20 torx an undo screws either side it hides
3. carefully pull out dash cover
4. ease the switch out, though it can catch so be careful
5. pull it out then hand under hold the clip and pull switch
6. hold switch push in new one
7. put back together & test

To all you guys asking about leather needing purely a switch to make it work - I dont know from experience however I'd take an educated guess that its highly unlikely seat would fit the heating elements (the expensive bit) and then charge you a tidy sum to fit the switch. If they were going to fit the elements anyway then I think they would just fit the switch too for the sake of a couple of quid.

Doesn't make much sense otherwise does it.

quick update, used it tonight to test, worked a charm
press and stays on for 9mins and then off - no more remembering.

the switch is a little longer in length than that to removed, bit all fits nicely.
