Replacing ABS Pump

Hi,

My ABS pump has recently decided to go on the blink. After much searching of the internet I have managed to find a refurbished one. My question is how do you fit it? Im guessing that you drain the brake fluid out of the system, unplug and unbolt the pump and ecu, plug the new one back in and then bleed the brake system with new oil? Any help from those of you who have done it or know how would be realy appreciated!!!:D

pretty much says it all - i even stripped mine down and cleaned it out first before i did it as it was a used one and still worked :):)

just dont drop it or you'll crack the ecu board in one drop as my brother will vouch for

only thing i didnt do was drain first - left old fluid in the pipes to save time when i flushed it all out after

Just thought id post on this thread rather than start a new one.

My ABS pump has given up the ghost aswell... flashed up after a wheelspin.. oops..

Iv VAG commed it and its shown the ABS pump, the lights go off when the engine is turned off, but come b ack on as soon as its supposed to do the ABS self test the next time its driven.

Im just wondering if the ABS pump is the same for all MK3's?
Im looking round breakers online..

Cheers,
Alex.

the main metal solenoid block is pretty standard but you'll need the number and type off the ecu part to match it up as there are loads different EDS/TCS/ECS etc

thankfully they are pretty widespread

my mk2 one is made from an octavia bottom and a toldeo ecu top

must admit in their defence you had to have the wheel off and look right down to see the bubbles mind, no way on earth the mot test would have seen them

right a carry on with this problem i took my car into a garage today and a mercanic drove it and came back, and said the reason i got a spongey pedal is because either a abs sensor is dirty and not reading properly, or the abs pump is intermittent and only works some time and when it work i get a good pedal. if its the pump dose any one know how much there are and if there easy to fit...

bottom of the abs unit itself so once that's out in open the motor is 2/3 screws and a wiring plug iirc

scrappers from £20-£40ish

solenoid block and valves is pretty standard but the ecu part varies with different options abe/eds/tcs etc etc but there is a pretty normal selection throughout vag

for example mine is a mk2 and its running with a skoda octavia block on original pump and a toledo ecu

just a case of matching up the numbers really
