Now i have finally got to the bottom of my engine light/consumption problems on my 02 1.8 20vt its time to have a little play.
Having browsed this forum until my eyes bleed i have decided on:
1: Forge 007p
2: Air Filter box mod and green air filter.
3: Boost gauge - still deciding where i want it mounted.

The forge and filter are ordered so as soon as they arrive i will get busy.

What mods would you recommend next?

A stage 1 remap is last on my todo list, i just need a bit of advise on the inbetween.

Also, how do i know what engine i have? where is the code located as i have had a look but not found it. I believe there are 2 different models, with significant power differences.

Cheers.

A good place to start would be:

Forge TIP
Uprated bushes on the dog bone mount
Cold air feed

That should see you all set and ready for a remap.

Its on the actual engine [cant remember if block or head], stamped on the front.. drivers side

Should be AUQ on a 02 reg.

Assuming its a Cupra and not a R?

Its an 02 reg yeah? only the early ones had the golf engine with the ko3 turbo most after 2000 had the later engine with the ko3s

I'd check the code on the actual engine....it could easily of had another plastic cover fitted from a different engine.

sadly i am in the uk.
looking in the log book..
the car was preped by the seat workshop in holland, the delivery inspection is also stamped by them.
then first service stamp is 12 months done on 14/11/03 at uk dealer, then every 12 months at same dealer.

The v5 lists it as a Leon 20v Turbo Sport, date of 1st registration 14/06/02, date of first registration in uk 14/06/02
i wouldnt have said it was an import but....
could it possibly have been imported brand new?

i will take another look around the engine for a number, any better idea where to look?

I thought APG was a non turbo 1.8 engine?

The easiest thing for you to do is to look at the actual stamp on the engine.

The engine code might also be somewhere on the V5? but I'm not sure to be honest.

mines a 2001 (X Reg) and the V5 says 1.8 20V sport but there is a Cupra badge on the rear. Engine code is stamped on the head. It's on the front corner next to the cambelt cover. If it's not what you are expecting then i guess someone could have changed the head at some time

pop off the engine cover a have a good look on top of the head, there should be a little tab with 3 letters engraved on it.

The apg bit is proberly a part number for the cam cover?

All uk cars were badged as cupras even though log books/insurance often mark it as a sport.

The plot thickens..
I took the engine cover off again, had a good search, found a lug hidden behind 'somehing', the lug looks to be used to winch the engine out. Any way, lug had APG stamped on top of it.
Looking at some of your engines, they look differentto mine, in my inexperienced eyes.
Car only has 30k so i shouldnt have thought anything major had been done.

first pic is my engine, red arrow shows where i took the 2nd picture.

Any ideas?

to be honest, i have no idea what a turbo looks like..:(
i am guessing that the silver thing running accross the front of the engine is part of it as that appears to be missing on my car.
the lack of dv noise is what brought me to this forum originally, so i figured that was why i couldnt hear it.
i came from a 96 1.6 cordoba so the car was worlds better any way, the car realy kicks in at 2.5-3k revs in 2nd and 3rd.

to complicate things further, i called the seat dealer the car was bought from new, they confirmed it was not an import and that the engine was a APG... w t f..

feeling pretty foolish right now.... and damn annoyed [:@]

can anyone confirm from my pic one way or anoher?
before i contact the place i bought it.
