How did I do that?! Confussed.

The early morning thing is about low temperatures. The lower the temp the less volume the same amount of fuel takes up. So the pump measures a litre the same everytime but the litre just so happens to contain a few more yummy petrol molecules.

yes, i believe the term you're looking for is 'density' [B)]. in cooler temperatures liquids are more dense meaning that you can get more into the tank

Yep always best to fill up early morning or late evening especially in summer if you are watching the pennies although really it doesnt do much to help.

I was reading somewhere that for better fuel economy that you should fill up about half way and then before hitting the red fill up again, saves your engine from sucking up all the crap in the bottom of the tank, i tend to runner the additive through it anyway to help keep it a bit cleaner. And never try and squeeze that bit extra in after the pump clicks its a proper waste of money!

god i sound like a dad,

oh wait i nearly am one so better get some practice in!

Ok manages like 200 miles to £20 that was including alot of motorway driving so was a record for me, (knockhill). Thn got like 130 to next £20 miltures of bypass and town, now ths is what's pissed me off, £10 yesterday from almost empty reserve tank gave me below 1/4 tank, 16 miles and fuel light was on, 16!! It has just gone off gain but will be back on about 20, what gives???? Is my car actually got a fault? It's pissing me off coz I could get more miles out a cupra than my 1.2!!!! Arghh

Don't worry too much Scott, when my fuel light came on, i got so annoyed that I decided to drive the thing until it spluttered and ran out completely, and found out from the moment the horrible fuel siren goes on, there's almost 50 miles of normal driving left!

from trip, I average about 48MPG, and i'm not a slow driver

quite personally think its disgraful for a 1.2 engine to get that lol, most people think 1.2 not too much power, good on fuel etc.....NO!! haha

When i used to drive my corsa (1.2 16v) it was so bad on fuel, and i think that was mainly due to teh fact that to get it to move you had to rang the crap out of it!

On the other hand, look what happened this morning... (40 mile trip on A roads with last 5 through town at 9am)

since a proper service (oil, sparkplugs, filters etc) instead of getting 300 miles out of a tank i'm getting 350 :D i'd still love 400 though

And seeing as ive only had it a few months, it hasnt exactly been driven "eco friendly" :D

While on topic of fuel, me and my mate were dropping some friends off at there glasgow flat from kilmarnock, he drives a 1.5l mazda 323f 1998, we left with the fuel light already on and this is about a 50 miles round trip. he decided not to fill up at first 2 given chances and the missed the turning on the way home, so panic began to set in as he said he has never let it run that low before, we basically crawled home but by god this thing was well below the bottom of the fuel empty line like almost touching the led bulb lol, i reckon he got like 60-65 miles out his fuel light, impressive imo for a 1998 car. just thought id share haha. I do believe myself there is at least 50miles in my 1.2 ibiza from the fuel light, wouldnt risk much more than that tbh.

I managed that frankly stupid MPG figure over my 32 mile commute to work. Just really watched when I accelerate, following lorries did help a little, have to say that anything over 60mph is a no no

Never got it that high again though, usual if i'm trying is around 65mpg...

Problem is, the rest of teh time i drive it, I drive it hard!

got 600 miles to my tank other day....decided to take it easy on the right foot last week...and it really showed.

Usually get between 56-58 mpg for the whole tank (little number 2).....but got over 60 last week...
