Hi guys was on the M1 yesterday cruising with air con on as was a very hot day, pulled into the inside lane and went over a dip in the road and BANG!!! pulled over as needed fuel as half expected bumper to be hanging off. pulled in and heard a twang when turning the wheel.

Phoned recovery and they put it on the truck and took me home to hampshire. So if anyone saw an arctic grey leon cupra on the back of a lorry on the M1 M25 or M3 that was me :D (oh well you got to laugh or you'd go insane) I'm thinking I may have blown a spring so did the recovery guy as it twanged again when he drove it onto the lorry. anyone else have any idea what damage could be done and cost? Many thanks

sorry for the epic.

Get the wheel off and have a look, it's the only way to tell for sure. Spring are compressed with some forced so if one pops out, it may have damaged something else. On the other hand it may have snapped, does your suspension, on which ever wheel it was, look collapsed?

I can't tell really visually no it doesn't haven't taken the wheel off though. She is sitting perfectly level though. I had a CV boot done on that side not too long ago would that have triggered anything?

It shouldn't have unless it wasn't fitted properly or has split. Was it the inner or outer CV boot? If outer, have a look and see if you see any grease leaking out of it if any is sprayed around the surrounding area. If the joint inside the boot has dried up and corroded then the joint might have snapped. Do you still have drive from both front wheels?

why didnt you get the recovery fella to have a look?
these guys are supposedly mechanics and should have checked what the cause of breakdown was before putting the car on a flat bed. did he leave you with some paperwork to say what the fault was or did he just load the car without asking too many questions?
