Popping and banging!

Not really a problem with the car as such, I just wish it would sound a bit nicer / more interesting!

I've always had Scoob's in the past and they have always sounded really nice with nothing more than a decent cat-back on them.

My current Cupra 20vt has a Superchip, pipercross viper induction kit, Scorpion cat-back and decat centre section and it barely sounds any louder than standard, doesnt pop or bang on the over-run and just generally sounds a bit flat!

I realise this is probably because the car is running pretty well and not overfuelling but is there anyway I can get it to sound a bit better when i'm pressing on?
Do they all sound like this or is my exhaust just a particularly quiet one?

It is decatted, its pretty much a 2.5" stainless system, just doesnt seem to make it loads louder!

Mines quite a bit louder when you give it a bootfull, doesn't really pop very much although I've only done about 100 miles with my new de cat so its not really carboned up yet.

Guess it must be my exhaust then or maybe i'm just expecting too much after the Scoob!

The decat does give me a fair bit more top end and sounds a little deeper but it doesnt really sound much louder or make the car pop on the overun like I though it would.

Would a turbo downpipe or manifold make much difference to performance or exhaust note?

The trouble with custom systems is that they give no power gains and sometimes actually hinder performance.

Wouldn't a downpipe help things?

Isn;t the popping and banging something to do with the ECU? My friend had his Subaru remapped and the mapper actually asked him if he wanted popping on the over run, not sure how he managed to achieve that via the ECU though.

I fitted a custom exhaust, when I first got the exhaust I first only put the backbox on because of the MOT and me being a t**t decided I wanted a cupra R style exhaust pipe and when they fitted one that looked like it, it ended up it was huge and looked very chav unfortunately so probably go back sometime and change the tail pipe on it.

Anyways, the back box just made it a bit throatier and I liked it because it wasn't excessive on tick over and you would be able to hear it if I really put foot down. I then got the full turbo back system fitted and this made it even louder which I didnt really want that but since having the full system it pops doesnt quite bang and is definately more pokey when pulling off.

I have always though that, but i got a dyno run done on my car...std appart from a custom tb exhaust 2.5" and it made 200bhp (180bhp std) i was over the moon!

I have a full custom 3" turbo back system with racing cat etc, doesnt hinder anything:confused: actually made the most torque out of any other mapped lcr on rr day..some others with the same mods..

Hmmm strange. I am sure there are a few good places that make custom systems but not around these parts unfortunately. I have heard stories of systems being made up from different diameter piping all over the place, I think that was on here actually, and reducing back pressure by too much. Personally I wouldn't take the gamble, it seems uncertain wheter or not you'll get a dog of a system or not. Where did you get your systems made up?

I got mine through a member on here, was built by a high quality custom exhaust specialist at a cost of nealy 1k. 3inch throughout and sounds better than any other ive heard on an lcr. Its beautifully made, not a powerflow jobbie

Aha, there you have it...I was thinking PowerFlow or Exhausts UK etc. Any sound clips of it at all? 3" right through seems a good idea rather than going from 3" - 2.75/2.5" from the mid-section.
