Hi Guys I've moved house and with it had to move my Ibiza 16V for the first time in 18 months so obviously after that much neglect it needs some TLC and now I've started I've got the bug again.

First off I had to change the rocker seal and as some of you long term members may remeber that took 5 attempts to get the right part, got that done finally then took 4 attemps to get the upper inlet gasket (fooking SEAT dealers main reason I lost intertest in the first place now have 4 lower gaskets if anyone want one?) so now it's all back together I thought hunky dory but no it wouldn't idle so tracked this back to a couple of things.

A couple of Vacum pipes have perished so taped them up but still wouldn't idle and got a nasty electrical burning smell and smoke from above the Exhaust Manifold shield, so pulled around the wire that runs there and lo and behold it came apart in my hands and is all black so there is (hopefully) my problem.

What I want to check/ask is this wire for the throttle position sensor as it plugs into the throttle body on the Throttle cable side and routes round behind the inlet manifold and plugs in below the Dizzy? If so is this a single part I can order (i.e. plug to plug replacement) or is this going to need some Electrical skills??

Also does anyone know off the top of their head what size vacume pipe I need to replace the perised ones running from the ISV to the inlet manifold and down the from of the Manifold to what I think is the Oil breather system (about and inch at most connected to the Square plastic cap screwd to the inlet manifold to the left of the dipstick).

Sorry for the crap descriptions but I have no tinternet at the moment so can't post pics of I'd circle where I mean.

No doubt Mr Flapper or RobT will be able to help if they are still around?

Thanks in advance.

I had a problem with my air flow sensor and turned out to be the cable came off from the plug so had to solder it back on.

The vaccum pipe will have a internal diameter of 3mm..... changed mine for red silcon (sp) off eBay, they look pretty :D

And the pipe from the "Square plastic cap screwd to the inlet manifold to the left of the dipstick" you on about the pipe going to:

  1. The Airbox
  2. The ISV
  3. The engine block

I had a perished pipe going from that cap to the block before and had to change that.

Welcome back fella! :funk:

wiring wise that one that runs across the back gets fried by the exhaust manifold heat, you can chop it out and replace it an/or use vag connectors/wiring, just take the number off either side of the connector and drop me a line i'll pass on the part number of the pins you need, might have a few spare here if you only need a couple

vacuum pipes (small ones) as dave says are about 3/4 mm

side of inlet runner #1 down to fuel pressure regulatop on top of fuel rail/injectors

one on top of throttle body follows inlet pipe to side of airbox

then from there drops down to valve in side of lower air box

there's a bigger bore short joiner to the idle valve connecting to the hard pipe from the inlet that's about 20mm ish

only ones i can think of off top of my head

*edit* welcome back btw ;)

Did have one spare, took it off to fit the hose for my oil catch tank... think it was 22mm Internal diameter :D

And thanks flapper forgot about the airbox to throttle body pipe, took that off years ago lol

Cheers one and all, Flapper your a star, I did wonder what the one out of the TB was the car came with a very dirty cone filter which is bing removed, now know to plug in the lose pipe to the Airbox. also I thought the Fuel pressure reg was the ISV (does the Ibiza have one) deer!!

What's that part called/numvber of the pipe from the Plastic Cap to the induction Elbow called as I really need a new one.

so is it worth unplugging the wire round the back and soldering it back together? the wire is fecked hence wanting to replace it so I don't end up with my own bonfire?

Just checked ETKA for you, found the pipe you on about but there isn't a part number. I did remove mine for the oil catch tank but can't find where I put it

ETKA1.jpg

You can see it's marked in blue the number 11 and there isn't a part number on the table :(

still stumped.

Right guys reallty fecked off now even had a mechanic in and couldn't get it to idle after 2 hours!!

Good guy though as he only charged me for the std call out.

Just before he left we narrowed it down to something to do with the solid plastic pipe that connect's to the top of the throttle body and follows down to in front of the front drivers wheelarch, with it attached it won't idle at all, with it disconnected it runs perfectly.

Is this the idle control valve? the the mechnic seemed to think so, he's never worked on a Ibiza/golf.

The mechanic guy noticed the plug the attaches into this little junction of piping wasn't conected and corroded and once it had been pushed back on the pipe at the throttle body end was audibly sucking and as said kills the car.

Will all this unit need replacing?

Hi Hi!

Thought i might add a thought or two. That pipe you are refering to goes behind the airbox and into the wing, to the Evaporative emmision control system.

Sounds fancy. Seems the system is controlled by a purge valve solenoid type thing, told what to do by the ECU. Maybe that could be the fault?

Rob.
