This driving me nuts.....my car seem to of developed a drinking problem....filled the cupra up with v-power, hit the half way mark lastnight with 100 miles on my trip, never used to be that bad! :( and if the cars "miles to empty" calculation is correct, my tank will be empty in 80 miles....wouldnt mind if i was gunning it all the time....

Plugged it into a code reader lastnight, and no faults what so ever, going to clean the AIT sensor and the MAF at the weekend and see if that changes anything.....Any other suggestions of what could be causing this? checked under the car lastnight and no visible signs of a leak! Help?

Not sure but how often do you get it serviced?
I change my spark plugs at least once a year - a cleaner burn, and a minor service (oil change, clean air filter) every 6 months.

it got a service 7000 miles ago and got the belts and water pump done 2000 miles ago, this has only been a problem for the last week :( going to clean to the maf, AIT sensor and replace the cone filter with the airbox again and see if that makes any dif!

I would still take a sparg plug out and see how clean it is, you'll know if it hasn't been changed at service if it is very very black and sooty looking.

400 should be about right, depends how much you squeeze in the tank really, there should be a little black lever inside the fuel filler that if you push down will allow you to put a bit more petrol in.

whats this little black lever? what does it actully do when you press it down to allow more fuel in lol?

it allows a small amount of air into the top of the tank when you put the cap back on, this air can be filled with fuel a couple of times then on the 3rd time just let the air stay there when you put the cap back on.

I can get roughly 230 miles out of a tank of unleaded/super when using a heavy foot, but taking it nice and easy there's a possibility of 280 miles, but sometimes my fuel range display a maximum of 305 miles to a tank, but that never happens

Mines been doing very well recently. Between 20k and 50k i would get 330miles between trips to the filler. Recently now I've got it to 60k 360 to 380 has been possible. I hit 395 once tho.

Thats not too bad, i was actually expecting quite a bit less with a 20vt. when driving careful i get just over 300 with my 1.2, you'd thing with a much more powerful engine they'd be a bigger difference

kidinspace ? have you also got a 1.2 12v seat ibiza .. how comes you get so many miles out of a full tank .. i get like 100 less then you if you have the same car what year is yours ?

I do indeed have the same car on an 05 plate, I change my spark plugs at least once a year - a cleaner burn, and a minor service (oil change, clean air filter) every 6 months.
Plus I generally drive motorway miles to and from work, and generally stick to speed limits... Most of my travel to and from work I can't get any more than 50/60Mph for a couple of miles anway as the roads/motorways are too conjested to build up any speed. It tends to be more or less a 40Mph average over the 17 miles each way as there is a lot of construction work going on at the moment. Other than that I generally cut out most of the unessesary fuel wasting short journeys. I also short shift most of my gears as well as never really using the air con, I only tend to switch it on once a month or if it gets really hot. I feel getting the most out of a tank of fuel is dependant on driving style...
When I had my mum's 2.0l Tdi A3 earlier this year I didn't put any fuel in it in a little over 3 weeks and managed just over 600 to the tank.

I know the picture I paint is that I drive like an old man, but I assure you this is not the case!

how can i vent my fuel tank, how do i go about it?

inside the opening of the fuel filler at the 2 o'clock position is a small black button which is normally pushed in when you turn the cover.

when the fuel pump clicks off hold the button in with the nozzle and you should hear air hiss out the expansion tank. then you should be able to put more fuel in. or hold the button in while fuelling. keep going the pump while keep clicking off but you can squeeze alot in.

cheers taz, how much to the £ extra can you roughly fit in £55? can this cause any problems over filling?
