LCR tyre upgrade...the grippiest and best?

ok i have ran the goodyear F1 eagles for a while and due to getting several punctures in a short space of time i chose to run falken 452s which seem ok if you are after the best budget tyre.

i am after some ideas on tyre upgrades for my car, i have searched but i realize the strong improvements in tyre technology since these threads were written so im after the best at the moment...i understand the many thousands of threads that do pop up all the time about tyres but im after the most grippy, sticky tyres that i can get, irrespective of budget or wear rate. since upgrading my suspension to KW variant 3s a few months back i want the handling on my car to be the best i can manage...if the tyres need changing in 5000 miles then so be it....

I have just put on the f1 assymetrics and they are pretty good so far. Really grippy in the dry and a comfortable ride. Not overly fussed in the wet but i pushed them quite hard the other day and didnt stick as well as i was expecting. The important thing is to have confidence about getting around a corner and these definitely give you that. Still though a very good tyre overall.

I have had 3 sets of michelin sports all round on the car before the good years and it is unbelievable the difference in road noise on these. They are soooo quiet and again very sticky in the dry and pretty good in the wet but could be better. Having only driven on the goodyears for a couple of weeks i cant tell you between these two which ones i prefer at the moment.

The ultimate set of tyres I had when I first changed in the Leon was the Vredestein Sessanta's I havent noticed many people on here which have had these and I would say y far these are the best tyres I have ever my life. They are extremely grippy in the dry and when driving in the rain it is just the same as driving in the dry, they are insane. I would definitely go for these if it is irrespective of cost and wear as the only reason I have not gone back to these is because they lasted me 4500 miles But would definitely go for these again if I have the money to blow

Yeh, try the vredestein sessantas and i dont think you will be disappointed. I have never felt so confident on a set of tyres. Although the down side to this is that if you dont go back to them like I didnt, nothing matches up to them and you have been spoilt a little bit with them

Bret, I know everyone bangs on about them but I cant recommend the F1 Assymetrics enough. I spent ages trawling through all the threads, looking at magazine reviews, getting the best prices, etc, etc and I'm glad I chose the Goodyears. Its very rare my traction control tells me off unless I'm going like a lunatic up-hill in the rain and wear seems to be pretty good at the moment, (4 months and about 4500 miles). Goes without saying how good they are in the dry. Definately worth shopping round too, I got mine fitted for £475 but the worst quote I had was £700. Cant comment on your other choices though as I've never used them.

You won't get better dry grip than these and will last the 5,000 miles you spoke about
Only big issue these are said to have is standing water, but other than that the best you can get without going to slicks

the avon is a very good performence tyre.... zz3 i think try it...... i have used them very sticky...

Are the R888's not semi slick so would be terrible in the wet?

I am wanting to upgrade my tyres as the ones that were put on were terrible cheap nasty wanli's, and I was looking at the falken 452's as I dont have alot of money, are they worth it, read good reviews but also hear people saying not great.

F1 asym's

I bought 4 from mytyres a couple of weeks back & had them delivered to local tyre fitter.

All done for a tad under £400! They are way better than the 452's they replaced.

they are good for the money, quite good in dry but if you really press on you notice their flaws...plus road noise is quite high...best budget tyre for the LCR

If you are after the latest tyre review, the only post-2007 review I have seen is a German car magazine reviewing performance summer tyres.

The new (2009) Pirelli Neros came out top by quite a distance. I believe these are meant to be a step up from the LCR's OEM Rossos.

In the UK 2007 tests, the GY Eagle F1 Asymmetrics came out top in Evo and Autocar (and improved the wet weather handling over the GSD3s quite considerably).

I will be buying the Asymmetrics again as they are without doubt the best wet handling tyres I have tried.

the thing with the new tyres is, that someone has to be the scapegoat for them. i bet the neros will be very good, but the rossos that came with the car wernt very good at all.

when i had my goodyear GSD3 i thought they were pretty good, until i started getting punctures every other week (im not joking) so i had to get a budget one...

im gonna have to do some more reading as i dont know to many other LCR drivers with different tyres so i can go and compare..

I've just got 4 of these ZZ3's & they seem quiet good, only £80 each too

I have just gone from a very budget tires that were on the car when I purchased it to toyo proxy T1R's. These are a summer tire but are really good in the wet too. Very grippy and seem to have a good wear rate too, I got two tires for just over the £200 mark. These tires replaced the T1S's. I really rate them, and handling of the car has been transformed, the nankangs that were one before weren't up to much!

The next tyre up from these from toyo are the 888s. The T1Rs are alittle more practically than the 888s with regards to our whether we get, even if it is the summer here!

Even though My leon is only a 1.4 I run 17's on it I have been using goodyear excellence rotationals on the front and f1 assymetrics on the back before I put the f1s on I was running dunlop sp sport run flats and against eveyone saying dont use runflats that gripped a hell off alot more than the F1's do I keep finding the back slipping out with the f1's on im considering going for the excellences all round to see what its like.

im just about to replace mine and im going for proxy T1R's i can get a par for £180.
